Hi,

Looks like my machine will not keep up with multiple tracks and large file sizes so need to upgrade or build a new pc.

Those with the knowledge care to part with some wisdom on a good spec to get the best out of PD11?

2 graphic cards or one etc?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, George

Hi,
Well I have an i7-2600@3.4Gh intel processor with a Geforce 560ti 1gb memory, and 12GB on board memory, a 1.5 Terabyte Hard drive and have no (or very few) problems running PD11 Ultimate.

Hi,
Yes I do I play with creating my own images to use in disc menu, Pip objects , etc, the only thing I don't bother with is audio cause I have a hearing loss (extreme and use a amplified headset for audio so I can't relate exact outcome). I also experiment with 3d aspect. My recommendation is have a large main drive and a lot of memory available (minimum 6GB or more)

Hi George,

I have:-

1. Win7 64bit....... (Important to use a 64bit operating system to get access to all of your ram. A 32 bit operating system will only allocate a maximum of 2gig of ram to any one program, no matter how much ram in your computer.)

2. 3.07GHz i7 cpu

3. 6 gig of ram

4. a 120 gig SSD main drive

5. 1 Terabyte internal normal drive.

6. 2 GTX 460 Nvidia graphics cards..... (PD only uses 1 for producing, even using CUDA)

I usually use 1 or 2 video tracks and one audio track for external voice track synced to video.

Without poking Murphy in the eye I have no problems producing my 1920X1080 35Mbps protune Gopro video.

Cheers

Thanks Robert. No point in two graphic cards then unless you are a hard core gamer or similar.

Yes I got 2 cards when my computer was being built 2 years ago. I do play the odd game but not much. If I was to do it again I would get just one good graphics card, less heat less noise. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Initially was told I need to upgrade my PC:

Notes some posters had juddering and sync with long rendering times.

Had the same problem and basically was told my system was not good enough to cope with the files, including .mov files.
Have upgraded to an Intel i7, 3.2 6 core unlocked processor. 64GB ram, ssd 128gb cache on a 300gb Velociraptor and using a Zotan NVidia 680 4gb graphics card. Have 32gb ram as windows cache - and I still have the same problem!!!!!

Its not hardware - its the software, it just has to be!

The rendering of 2 layer videos and editing of same takes minutes now - it took hours on my last machine.

As soon as you layer tracks and music (not .mov files) is gets jerky! Impossible to sync and its frustrating.

Anyone out there with an answer? Thanks, George

George, have you read the threads regarding the latest drivers? Did you install the applicable patch?

What else do you have running when you are rendering(encoding) the video? Some programs that access the web periodically may take the attention away from the CPU/GPU. Also check to see if your anti-virus is scanning everything being written to your hard drive. Since you are doing the writing, you don't need that active. .

I have the latest drivers and a cpu/video card spec that will choke a horse. 6 core cpu that does not even get to 33% when I am having the problem.

The machine was custom built for me to edit video. Others are having the problem and it is not the lack of spec on my system. The cache is a 128gb ssd drive etc.

It looks like a software/driver problem. Thanks, George
