How do Cut & Paste fotos from one location to another I do not see a command like CRTL/X .. CTRL/V

Hello PDebaene,

There are no cut, copy & paste commands in PhotoDirector.

It's important to understand that PhotoDirector doesn't physically import anything. What it does is record the file path to the real photo. That information is stored in the project file and allows PhotoDirector to locate your files.

So there's nothing to copy & paste!

You can "move" photos into different albums, tag groups etc by dragging & dropping or right clicking & selecting the option you wish. This is a way of organising your catalogue.

The only things you can copy & paste in PhotoDirector are adjustment settings. The adjustments you make to a photo can be copied & pasted onto another image &/or saved as a preset.

Hope that helps.

Hei Pix ... I thought that I would copy/edit my 'Filing concerns' mentioned http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/26840.page to this thread, it being more specific to my problem.

You mentioned ... What it does is record the file path to the real photo ... however, every picture on my pc in the master library is in a correct date order except those that I have recorded into PhD3 which do not have the Capture EXIF data. Is this simply an issue with this free PhD3 version because I am considering upgrading to PhD4 BUT filing for me is very important. I know you can Tag and have other ways of 'finding' pics but my entire library is date based ... in Capture Date or Import Date if former is not available. I can't spend the time importing 100's of files individually, firstly adding a Capture Date to the file properties before importing to PhD3. If this simple filing is not possible then I will continue to use other software and only import specific pictures to PhD3 to use some of the excellent Edit/Adjustment tools.

Below is what I had said within the other thread headed: Free PhotoDirector - 48 hours

Thanks Pix ... must be something local.
Funny thing is that for many years I have imported my pics from cameras and ext discs into other photo programme in ones and 1000's and never had a crash during the import process. I will have a fresh study of my set ups for importing but I also see from searching PhD that these issues have been raised in the past.

I am also having problems when importing eg smart phone pics where there may be limited EXIF (or none) sent to me. If there is no 'Date Taken' the import ends up in an incorrect location ... I would have thought that it should then have filed itself in the 'Date Imported' ... either into the main picture file or when imported into PhD3.

On further checking it seems that if any imported picture does not have Date Taken/Capture Date then it is filed with any others not having this EXIF info. Is there any way to automatically overcome this eg file pic in imported date? Its not a problem if simply importing one picture but (as in my case) when trying to import your Picture Library which has many pics without Capture Date it becomes a serious hassle. It seems that once an import is completed, you cannot subseqently add data within the programme to move the picture to its correct location ... this means that you have to delete such pictures and then reimport, making sure that the date info is inserted manually. I hope that I am doing something wrong?

Hello Ron,

Everyone's photo workflow is matched to their own needs, so we need to go about it in slightly different ways. I have to admit that my stored images aren't nearly so methodically organised as yours, though they might be if I spent time on it. My image folders are organised by Subject > Date.

Would it work for you to simply import your folders (organised by date) and leave them in the same folder structure in PhD?

From those folders, you could create albums for particular projects, if you wished.

On your PC, within each folder, have you renamed each image to list by date? e.g. with a prefix of (say) 2012-4-18. Are your folders labelled by date in the same way?

It's difficult to advise without "looking over your shoulder".

Another thought Ron,

Perhaps there might be something in this tutorial that might point you in the right direction http://youtu.be/GqrFqxgPLk8

Thanks Pix for taking time out to try to solve my problem ... a very comprehensive overview. However you must have been a salesman in your past life for you could have said (in answer to my date order query) that the answer is 'No' however these are some of the options
Please do not take offence to this, I do sincerely appreciate your guidance.

For the past 15+ years I have always filed my pics in a year/date sequence ... scanned prints of course in the early day's. Pics have been taken using many different camera's/mobiles/smart phones/ camcorders etc. For each year I have a master folder in my picture library within which all pics taken that year are in date sequence ... capture date where possible. I can't change this process ... many many 000's involved. But whatever picture software I used (or use) seems to easily cope with this filing system ... to me this is fundamental but I could well be wrong. There are most likely lots of photo software's out there that don't file by date.

Apart from date order filing, I have tags for some of the more important pictures (maybe 10% of the total) so can quickly access them this way. Note that most of my pics are 'domestic' (not competition entries/Facebook whatever) and are used by my better skilled half to create album/story books. When we have a number of pictures to print (at a printers) I have a system that enables me to easily find (in date order) which was the last pic printed. I copy the forward balance onto a memory stick/other pass it to the boss and she decides which ones she wants printed etc. It is a hobby ... believe me we have a room full of albums
It is very efficient ... for us at least, though what I do may not be the norm. But a basic Date Order file seems so fundamental as a starting point for any photo library system

I have just raised my query with Cyberlink and will publish their response here.
Thank you again Pix ... you are a very busy online contribute and I am sure all of us appreciate the effort.

I promised to post the reply from Cyberlink ref 'date filing'.
Below is their answer:

Thank you for contacting CyberLink Technical Support.

I understand that you have query related to feature of modifying dates of the pictures, which do not have the Exif information, using the PhotoDirector 4 program.

You can use the MetaData tab of the Library in PhotoDirector 4, to modify the fields of the Pictures.

You can view more about them, at below given link:

http://www.cyberlink.com/products/photodirector/features_en_US.html

They referred to PhD4 (I asked about 3) but I guess its the same 'filing'. As far as I can tell you cannot import in date order other than 'Capture Date' so I will not use PhD3 for my prime library. Love some of the features though and will definately use this software.
