I noticed that there are either green or yellow rectangles on scenes to be moved to a time line. What is their function or information?

Hi,
please check which Forum you use to post - I moved two of your threads from PDVD to PDIR

Thanks, whatever helps. However, since this question arose why I was building and editing a project in PD10, the main function of the program, I thought that PD10 is the right forum. ASUS P8Z68 deluxe

Hi,
Michael was making the point that you did NOT post in the PowerDirector 10 forum and he has had to move two of your posts from the PowerDVD forum!

I noticed that there are either green or yellow rectangles on scenes to be moved to a time line. What is their function or information?

You are referring to the creation of shadow files, used by low powered computers to enable them to edit HD video files.
See: Preferences/General and the check box "Enable HD....."
See: Confirmation prompt " Always prompt me when I import high....."
See: help files, use "high definition".

If you have a powerful computer you do not need to generate shadow edit files.

I apologize. Apparently I inadvertently clicked on PDVD instead of PD10.

Thanks for the explanation.

I am still puzzled by the green and yellow "shadow files". The video was recorded on HD camcorder on two sequential days. Nothing was changed on the camcorder between the days. The video was downloaded to a computer in one session. Yet, the first day video has green rectangles the second day video has yellow rectangle. What has caused the change? Thanks. ASUS P8Z68 deluxe

The little yellow rectangle means your computer is in the process of generating shadow (or proxy) files, low-res copies of your hi-res video files. These copies are used by your computer, automatically, rather than the big hi-res HD files, which can be very tough on lower-end computers. When the shadow file is completed being made, the little yellow box turns green, and you are good to go. It would be best to wait until all the boxes turn green before you start your actual editing. If you have a powerful computer, you do not need these shadow files, and you can go into Preferences and click-off the setting, and the little boxes will be gone.
From your general specs in your signature, I suggest you turn off the function.
