I have been browsing the forums and coming across a few others with the same issue as myself, basically i have performed a clean install of windows 8 pro, I have the installer of power dvd9 and my OEM key for it, I also have my power dvd 12 ultra key but 9 will not activate says i need administrator rights (I am the only user on my pc i have tried both a local account and a Microsoft one) as you know you cant install 12 over the top as it detects a trail version.

Why oh why do Cyberlink have to have such a stupid system is beyond me , other software makers (Acronis for example) just have a pop up box for if you have entered an upgrade key where you must insert a qualifying earlier version key into. This way you get a nice no nonsense clean install of the latest version without all the junk that gets left behind from an earlier one.

I have read submitted a ticket and have read that once pressed /leaned on for long enough you get the link for a ful version download, so why cant an admin or supermod/global mod have the ability to pm that to the members here , you can access my log I can provide log in info to my account and you can check to see i have registered keys for 120 ultra and the OEM key for both 9 and 7 .

This would make it a lot easier for both yourselves and support especially with the recent launch of windows 8, i would image a fair few people will be having the same problems.

Below are my system specs should you need them, any other info you need just let me know.

Similar issue here, got the PowerDVD 12 upgrade (doh!) so I need to install 9 first on a clean install of Win8. For me, the activation key just gets rejected despite it being the same one under my profile on this site with the message below:
Your activation key is incorrect.
Please try again. (0x80ab000b)

Wondering if after I get the key working if I'll run into the issue the original poster is having.

I just spend over $50 on the upgrade after seeing the 12 trial works on win8 so its especially frustrating. I also have a dual boot with Win7 where the activated version of 9 is running but it looks like it's not checking there since its a separate OS. Any advice is appreciated as I have yet to hear back from support (caseID is CS001196040 if support is reading this).

Hi, Did you install a PowerDVD 12 patch before you tried to activate it?
I had the same issue with 12. Did a clean install with the 12 release version, installed the latest patch = error.
Uninstalled, re-installed the 1st release = activation successful. Will now apply the latest patch, which I expect will still work.

Cheers,
