Understanding Hardware Acceleration

I am trying to understand hardware acceleration now that I have a PC with an Nvidia 660ti card and the patch enables me to use it. When I go to produce, I can select hardware acceleration for MPEG-4 and AVCHD but not for MEPG-2, AVI or MOV. Is this the expected behaviour or have I got some setting wrong?
Thanks
Philip

Expected, Nvidia currently supports MPEG-4 HA and that's all.

Ah, thanks. I still have a lot to learn about video formats!

I also do not understand hardware acceleration, here use ATI HD 6750
Hardware video encoder, on to MPEG2, AVCHD, MPEG4 and makes no difference to the reder time, on or off.
Another case, I have to disable Harware Acceleration, (in Preferences) because PD crashes when using some effects, now also using old drivers.
If I remove the card and use ATI video omboard yes make much difference, spends much time for rendering

Hi playsound ,
There is an issue with some ATI 6XXX cards cant enable hardware video encoder. AMD are aware of the problem.
