I have JVC Everio HDD video cam. When I hook it up to my PC, the PC recognizes it but PowerDirector does not. I have to capture the video with Windows but would rather capture thru PD. Can someone let me know if they have had the same problem and/or how to correct it?
Thank you!

The best way to get video from a camera to the computer is to copy the files from the camera to the hard drive, then in Powerdirector use the Import function, Not the Capture Module.

Yes, I had the same with a Canon Legria HFM52.
I too was disappointed to find I couldn't capture within PD.
After a little research I found that PD can only capture via firewire and not USB.
As Carl (above) says, the best/only option is to copy the movie files in Windows.

Hi

I also have JVC Everio HDD video cam. I would like to capture from the video cam due to the fact that when you go over the limit of the file size when recording to the cam, large files are split into smaller files. When you try and stitch them together in PD, any version, there is a small glitch at the join and the file is therefore not seemless and you get a hicup.

It would be good if PD could stitch the files together without this issue. I have tried many programmes to overcome this but none have worked. This is an issue with HD camcorders.

Hi rsm,
Seemless splitting of files? - Doesn't happen for me. There is a period when the video being recorded by the camera stops, the file is processed and the new recording starts.

It depends on the brand and type of camera you are using.

My Canon HF100 does a good job of continuous recording. It breaks up the video files into 2 GB chunks, but it does not lose any time between files.

When you butt two or more files from the camera on the PD time line you get a seamless video. If it was a continous recording.

Hi

Let me explain a little bit more. I have a JVC high def digital camcorder. If I were to record video of 45 minutes in length, then the camera, due to file size restrictions, will split the video into two files. If recording as I usually do in hi-def then the files usually split at approx. 32 minutes and the second would be 13 minutes long. Now playing back the recording to the TV obviously plays the video seemlessly with no issues to audio or video from the camcorder.

However, when I the load the two files into PD, and this is for PD9,10,11, when you drag the files into the timeline and butt them together, i.e the end of one to the start of the other and playback either in PD or having made any type of file recording, there is a pause at the join. The playback is not seemless. If I had someone sining and turning at the same time, you would get a slight pause as the person turned and you would lose a few words of the song.

I discussed the issue with JVC in the first instance re file size and I am told that this is true of all digital camcorders and is down to the format of the SD card and file restriction. I checked this with other manufacters and they all said the same thing.

The only way around this I have found so far, is to copy the recording to a DVD via a recorder which then unfortunately records it as an Mpeg2 format therefore reducing the quality and then capturing the DVD into PD. No pause, playback is seemless due to the fact that it is all now one file.

If anyone has any ideas as to why or how to stop PD causing me the problem of joining the two files then it would be appreciated. This is why it would be nice if I could capture direct from the digital camcorder.

I use two GoPro HD cameras a lot to shoot video from the motorcycle. They save the files has MP4 h264. The SD cards are formated in fat 32. When I records for a long time the video file will stop at 3.66 GB and start a new file. The frist file will have a name like GOPR0236 the second one GO010236. It's a fat 32 deal can't go over 4 GB they say.

I will say oh when I copy the files to my hard drive and import them in to PD and add to the timeline. I have never had a problem put them together and playing them. Never had trouble with pause. Yesterday I was helping the wife take care of her mom. One of the ladys that helps take care of her has been feeding a squirrel. She is getting it to take food from her hand. I had a little HD Flip camera with me and shoot 11 clips of it. I put them togehter and made a little video.

I was doing a little research on those JVC camera they save the file has a .mod . I don't know if this might cause the pause still trying to understand it. In the original MOD file the minimum time frame was 0.02 seconds, or a "vertical blanking" (VSync) interval, because the original software used the VSync timing of the monitor running at 50 Hz (for PAL) or 60 Hz (for NTSC) for timing. Here is the stuff I was reading.
