A Not So Happy Customer

Not even two months ago I purchased Photodirector 3. Upon starting the program today I get a message that Photodirector 4 has arrived. O.K. so let's upgrade.

But the price of an upgrade turns out to be 70% (!!!!) of the price of a new complete version.

Now if Photodiretor 4 had been a complete overhaul of the previous version that would be a price to give some consideration. But for an upgrade with a few new features for a two months old package, that is waaaaay too much.

A not very happy nor statisfied customer

Hi,
Cyberlink may give you and upgrade to PhotoDirector 4 if you purchase prior to the release, but you have to submit purchase information to tech support with purchase details. Try contacting them.

Hello lowlands,

How did you get on?

CyberLink's refund & upgrade policy is typically based on 30 days from purchase, so I doubt they'd come to the party with a free upgrade. Did you contact Customer Service? https://membership.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/customer-services.do

PhD3 & PhD4 are very similar, but there's a significant improvement in functionality... body shaper, HDR, face tagging, content aware removal, support for newer camera formats etc

This may help http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=15269&prodId=211&prodVerId=997

So I contacted support.

Alas we have a policy that states you can upgrade within 30 days of purchase. You contacted us after 40 days. So you will have to pay 70% of the new price. But you are eligible to buy any of our other fine products such as the Photodirector Suite we just released. For the full upgrade price of course.

That is what the answer boiled down to. Not just a refusal. But a refusal together with a sales pitch. Now I am the kind of guy that likes to pay fol legal use of software. But this really makes me think ......

It also seems that Adobe has some nice software. Might take a look at that. In any case Cyberlink just lost a customer.

Hello again,

Sorry your efforts didn't get you anywhere you wanted to go.

I can understand you being a bit disgruntled. If a moderator had any influence, I'd put your case... but I don't have any influence on sales policy.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope the software you choose meets your needs & makes your photo workflow happy & productive.
