I don't know.

What have you changed on your computer?

Is Quicktime up to date?
What about your Video Drivers, are they up to date?

Maybe a restore of the computer to a time when the transitions were working.

Have you tried re-installing Powerdirector?

This is a Power Director issue, not hardware or quicktime - - who friggin needs quicktime ? I use VLC Home Cinema for everything incl. flash. Quicktime download and install is full of tag along garbage that pays to Apple to infect your computer

I can drag transitions to the beginning or end of a video clip OK, but no longer can you "insert" them in between video clips.

Also, right click no longer allows me to set the duration of the transition. . . .

Can’t really comment on your conspiracy theory there. But here some references to Quicktime In CL’s Knowledge Base.

Are you sure that there isn’t a small hidden gap between the video clips?

PD9 has never had the option to change a Transistion’s duration in the right click menu, or via the duration button on the editing screen. This was however an option in PD 8 and earlier versions.

Hope you get it all sorted out.

Right click works well to change the duration of text boxes - - why not transitions too ? They had it in PD 8 and earlier, then they abandon what users are already familar with ? That's intelligent . . . .

You're right. It's a backward step. Just to add to the confusion it's still in the right-click menu but greyed out. Regards,
Mike

Transitions changed in PD9.

In PD8 and earlier, transitions were a merged overlap between two videos with an equal distance/duration used in the overlap. A transition could be no greater than half the length of the shortest of two clips. Duration was limited but would cover an equal distance between two clips. The overlap of the transition shortened the display period of these clips by the overlap period used.

Since PD9 the transition has become a different tool, no longer restricted to the merged overlap, there is also a cross type behaviour transition. These two distinct types require more accurate placement and use. A transition between clips is not bound to be equal or restricted by the length of the shortest clip. An overlap shortens the video while a cross type doesn't. Duration of a transition is not defined equally on a variable placement item except in the default preference settings.

I set my transitions to one second and expand if I wish. I also use the Cross variant while others prefer Overlap, as the default choice.

I have got used to the way transitions work and use them. The PD8 and earlier method was very basic compared to today's transitions form.

Just my opinion.

Cranston has asked about the gap between your video clips. I would be interested to read your answer. Please provide a screenshot of the Edit Workspace - so we can see the tracks and the transition positions. Expand your tracks fully and examine the clip ends carefully.
