What do I do if my source files are an odd frame rate (such as 42)

I am using gopro video which I believe is 48 frames/second in the mode I usually use. I want to produce in h.264. When I go to make a custom profile, 48 is not an option for the frame rate. Should I go down to 30 or up to 50? What happens when you tell powerdirector to produce a video with more frams/second than the raw video you are editing? Also, is it good or bad if I use the highest bitrate it will allow me to use?

Thanks

Suggest you search this forum for some of the answers. There are Gopro users here.

You should be able to do it but requires a bit of tweaking,it is possible to do any frame rates in your case 42fps or 48fps.

First read post number 4 and 5 from Dafydd Bevan - SoftDeko or read the whole post to get a better idea what you should do to make a custom template with 48 fps:

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17939.page#91727

Once you create your custom profile you open up with note pad and manually change the frame rate on this line based on the example from his post post that he quoted on post 5:

<Frame Rate>29.969999
to
<Frame Rate>48.000000

That should let you out put your videos at 48fps.

I would use the m2ts template not the mp4 template due to my own experience of fps.

In the past I tried to make a 30fps on the mp4 template but the result would always gave me a video at 29 fps instead of 30fps which I needed, the m2ts works better.

I have two versions of PD installed. Editing the profile works for PD10, but with the other version the numbers get scrambled and the frame size will never be right. You should be Ok doing this.

Unless it is fast action or slowed down, you may be better off producing to 30 fps than 50 fps, if the custom profile doesn't work out for you. Played on computers it will make no difference, but played on televisions at 50 fps, it may be seen as PAL and may not play correctly. Just a guess.

Producing to a higher frame rate, PD will likely blend frames to make the extra frame needed to go from 48 to 50.

Last, try to use the same bitrate as the original, or slightly lower. Going higher does not increase the quality, but will make a bigger video file. __________________________________
