HOW TO FADE A PERSON BUT KEEP THE BACKGROUND

It's been a while since I posted because my PD9 is going pretty strong. Anyway, I wanted some help learning how to fade a person out of a background. I just shot a video in a park setting and the subject wants to fade out like an ethereal being. How can I accomplish this?

Thanks.

In simple terms you shoot some video with the subject then shoot some with just the background. Then in the editor you cross-fade between the two. You'll need to use a tripod to make sure the cam doesn't move between the shots and check that nothing in the backgound changes, e.g. people or vehicles moving. In a park environment you'll ideally need a still day to avoid trees and bushes moving. Regards,
Mike

Or you can shoot the person on a Green Screen and use Chroma Key to isolate from the background.

That still requires that you have the two scenes.

The Background video must not have the person in the video.

Hi cbidnik -

The suggestions made by Fenman & Carl are the ideal solution. Shooting the video knowing what exactly you're going to do with it isn'y always possible.

Here's a way you can "fake" it.

Split the video at the point you want the subject to disappear. Take a snapshot. Edit the snapshot in a photo editor to remove the subject. Place the snapshots in the timeline like this.

It's not ideal, but it gives an effect... attached.

Cheers - Tony
