Right click on the desktop shortcut for PD, select Properties, click on the Compatability tab and look if there is a box that says Run as Administrator, if its not checked, click on the box to place a check mark. Then click on Apply, then click Ok. HP Envy 17

Well that basically was just a thought. In looking at your dxdiag txt file there seems to be many references to Roxio and Ulead software of some kind. Maybe someone else here in the forum can assist as whether than can co-exist on the same system. I don't have either installed but others might, could be an issue of software incompatability??

edit 1 time to add Ulead

Roxio is a dvd creator, copier, etc. I've had it for a while, even when PD10 worked. I paid for it so I don't want to get rid of it.

Oddly enough, PD09 opened properly. I wonder what the difference is??

I really appreciate everyones help. This is so frustrating. and Support is absolutely worthless. I haven't heard from them since last Thursday or Friday.

Was this an upgrade from PD9? Maybe you can request support to send you new download links and maybe they will just give you the PD10 installer instead. When I reformatted, I had all the files except for the update to PD10 from PD8 could not locate it (even in 2 backup drives ). I was sent links for the 3 files for PD10, no update needed. Just a thought but maybe a conflict during the upgrade. HP Envy 17

igolfccod;

I notice you said you obtained your graphic driver update from HP . I recommend you check for newer video drivers on the AMD site. Your drivers are more than a year old. Not sure what version you are running since the update. Also, you mentioned you reset the DPI to default? Is it still at default?

Can you re-attach a NEW DXDIAG file, please.

I do not use ATI chips on a notebook (I am an Nvidia guy), so my caution to you is to wait for one of the senior contributors who do (like CubbyHouseFilms) to find this post and make a recommendation of how to proceed, which version and what it is recommended. CubbyHouseFilms uses a DV7 laptop and may have seen similar issues with PD.

I am sure he has it running!!!

Guys, I really appreciate your help.

David, Support did send me an installer but after installation PD10 still didn't work. That's the last I heard from them.

Fred, DPI is still default although the print is too small. I have attached the latest Dxdiag.txt. I tried to find the driver from AMD but couldn't find it. I'm sure I was doing something wrong which is why I went to HP.

I have Power Director, Creator and have used Corel Video Studio and they do exist happily together. The only issue in the past was from incompatible packet writing software in those programs.

Stick with 96 dpi or some things will still not work right even when you get your program running.

Let's try this. Do you know how to get to the events log in Windows? Do you see one that shows the crash? What does it say.

Go to Windows start and type in "Event Viewer". Open that and look at the logs for "Applications." Do any show any red highlighted events? If so, click on one and see what it says and tell us. It may or may not be helpful to us but it may help Tech Service.

Attached is an image of what you might see.

Quote: Fred, DPI is still default although the print is too small.

If the text is too small, you can set the size of the default fonts in windows 7 easily without changing the DPI (although I am not convinced the DPI Scaling had anything to do with this "failure to start"):
1. Right-click desktop and choose Personalize.
2. Choose "Windows Color" on the bottom...weird I think, but Bill G. is a Billionaire.
3.Click in "Advanced Appearance Settings" and set the font for whatever is too small.

If you aren't loading AERO, click the link below for a little different procedure (See Item #3)

Hope this helps.

Steve, no errors per se but several Info entries for PD10: Summary says:

"The description for Event ID 0 from source PDF Suite 2010 Service cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Service started"

There are errors in other folders.....tons of them......

By the way, each time I get the error a dialogue box pops up and asks me to forward to Support two files: MiniDump.dmp (which I can't open, and a CrashRpt.xml which contains:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
<CrashInformation VERSION="1.0"><ID Value="3A92D496-9203-4FEB-8F08-CF0B679253E2"/><UUID Value="S-1-5-21-296332224-540230788-4262912171-1000"/><SR Value="VDE120314-04"/><ProductName Value="PowerDirector"/><AppName Value="PDR10.exe"/><AppVersion Value="10.0.0.1703"/><VersionName Value="10.0"/><VersionType Value="Ultra"/><Is64BitOS Value="1"/><OSName Value="Windows 7 Home Premium Build 7601 Service Pack 1"/><GDICount Value="1065"/><VMSize Value="513 MB"/><VGAName Value="AMD Radeon HD 6500M/5600/5700 Series" DriverVersion="8.961.0.0"/><ModName Value="Unknown"/><ModVersion Value="0.0.0.0"/><ExceptionCode Value="0xC0000005"/><Offset Value="0x0000000003579410"/><SendLogUrl Value="http://boomerang.cyberlink.com/prog/util/boomerang/sendlog.jsp"/></CrashInformation>

Have no idea what this means. I have sent about 20 of these things to Support and included my email address, but have heard nothing from them.

Thanks Fred. I think I'll leave dpi at minimum for now although I agree with you, not sure what difference it makes. but just in case......
