Hi -

This was prompted by a PM, asking whether PD could be used to generate a karaoke type video where the lyrics first appeared as outlined text with no fill - then were filled as the song progressed.

There are different ways of going about making a Karaoke type video. This is just one. Would I choose to do it this way? Probably not. I was just answering a PM. Can PD be used to do this? Yes.

Here are the steps I took after grabbing the background clip & song lyrics:
1. Make first title, containing 1-2 lines of the song
- formatted with no start/end effects & 100% transparent font face (second screenshot below)
2. Adjust duration to match song
3. Duplicate (copy & paste) title
4. Insert at appropriate point & adjust duration
5. Format pasted title
- pop up starting effect
- 0% transparency
6. Repeat steps 3-5 for next line(s)
7. Preview timing, then modify duration of starting effects (third screenshot below)
8. Once a section is complete (e.g. verse or chorus), that whole section is copied, pasted & modified where necessary.

In the timeline...

The completed video...

I know that Cranston came up with a method where colour boards were used to fill the letters. There are always different ways around a question.

Cheers - Tony

Good job Tony... You could keep it all transparent til the word is needed also...

Now I want to see a bouncing ball in sync with the words.... __________________________________________

I tried ynotfish's method but that method has its limitation. For example, I could not cue the motion with the lyrics correctly if not all the words are sang at the same speed.

Is there another method? What is the color board method mentioned?

Thank you for your help.
