It would be useful to include occasional on-line video snips within a Production.
Are there any recommendations from members on suitable software (preferably free!) or perhaps someone has experience of this free software for directly recording a video programme being watching on a pc.

Hi Ron -

If you're watching it online, you'd be far better off downloading the video file rather than doing a screen capture. There's plenty of free software & browser add-ons that allow that. I use Firefox with an add-on called Download Helper.

There's also plenty of free/affordable screen capture software, but they don't all record system sound.

Cheers - Tony

G'day Tony, thanks for your quick reply.

Yes, I am aware of and use video download snips from time to time but perhaps I did not really make myself understood ... not knowing the 'techo language' to phrase my query correctly

As you will know better than I, a lot of 'stuff' that one can watch online is not available as a download. Thus its a matter of capturing as it happens. But having no knowledge of 'capture' software and being very cautious about installing software that I have no knowledge about ... among 'us' there will be many with the knowledge I lack.

Ron

Thanks for this link ... it seems much more professional than the one I found. Will give it a go. CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)

Hi,
I was following this post and went to BabIndia link for NCh software and downloaded screen capture program to test but Kapersky Pure flagged and quarantined the program? Twice.

Jim

Maybe you need to train Kapersky to allow. I downloaded and tried the program BabIndia Linked to.

It is a nice Capture program, it is so nice that I went and paid for the program.

Just be sure to uncheck the extras.

Agreed Carl - I've used it, even though it's not my "go-to" capture software.

Jim - TrendMicro Titanium found no web threats on the NCH site.

Or for even shorter (5 minutes) try "Jing" from the same people that made Camtasia Studio and Snagit (not free but very good).

http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

I use it all the time for image capture and very short video.

I'm calling a halt now to this thread, interesting as it is. All are third party software.
