PD9 now says activation code is not valid

All I know, is when I received my boxed copy, I did not see instructions during the installation stating this needed to be done. But regardless of that, I burned MPEG2 just a couple months ago, and now I cant even do that. According to these posts, that should not even be an issue. And if I had read all I could find on this product in the forums before purchasing it, I most likely would not have. It has been issue after issue, and when I finally get everything working I get locked out after burning 4 or 5 discs.

Hollon,

Just to clarify did you successfully burn discs beyond the 30 day deadline? I just wonder if, for some reason, your 'features' didn't get activated. Regards,
Mike

Hi,
Carl has guided you to contact Customer Support as they are the ones who you need to enquire to. Component Activation has been present in PD9 since it's launch, November 2010. Forum members have guided each other to click and use various features to activate each.

Why Component Activation? I assume it is both a security feature and to do with end user usage charges encountered by a company. If you read a link provided to me by BarryTheCrab, it may help you understand the situation more. As far as I gather, from a security point of view, the component activation restricts multiple use of a key/installation preventing unlicensed usage.

Hi Dafydd (taking care to get the spelling right this time ) ,

I don't have any problem with component activation per se. I think if you read all my posts you will see that it's the process as described by Carl that I regarded as unacceptable.

If my later interpretation, i.e. that one has 30 days to activate from the time one first tries to use a feature rather than from the original installation date and that a prompt is issued at that time then I would be perfectly ok with that.

Conversely if one has to trial-use all the features within 30 days of installation in order to get them all activated, which is the way Carl described it, I would not be happy with that because there don't seem to be any warnings about it in the package as purchased.

I simply contend that if a particular procedure needs to be followed it should be stated clearly and unambiguously in the documentation supplied with the product. It should not be necessary to contact Customer Support, search the website or rely on user forums for clarification. Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thank you for clarification. The same comments have been made previously for PD9. Component Actiivation was new to us all when it appeared. So was the need for better documentation. Customer Support may be able to reset the activation and resolve the matter for an editor.

You should give PD10 a go.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I burned mpeg2 last month, after having spent many months ironing out other issues with the program. I installed the program the first time back in August of 2011 I believe. My activation codes are even on file with cyberlink.

PD9 does pretty much all I need at present and seems reasonably stable on my system so for the amount of editing I'm doing I can't really justify it.

Hollon, I'm afraid it looks like you will have to bite the bullet and try to sort this out with Customer Support as Carl and Dafydd have suggested. If they won't play ball because you haven't got proof of purchase then your options seem obvious:

1 Buy a new copy of Power Director (through gritted teeth!!)
2 Buy a competitor product
3 If it's only the disk creation side that's causing problems then use third-party tools for this function (they'll probably be better than PD9's anyway).

This is a major problem if and when you need to format your HDD. I am in the process of getting a fix from Customer support but a single activation is all that should ever be required and a record should be kept so that the same user can reactivate if needed.

It seems at this time I am just out of luck. It doesnt incline me to ever purchase a cyberlink product again.

Well they are working with me to get mine running again.
Now that I have seen the posts here when they fix it for me I will be activating everything. I got this because it uses the best of my Nvidia card and does full HD and 64bit. I find it works really well and I am looking forward to working with it again soon. BTW the bluray disc from my HD movies is so good, worth the hassle.

John,

Are they asking you for verification of purchase and receipts? I bought mine almost a year ago and dont have any of that anymore. WHat info would I need to provide them?

Thanks,

Hollon

I sent them the details of my copy I had the O/N from Digital River and the CD key, they then asked me for the S/N which you can get by clicking the words POWER DIRECTOR in the top right of the window, also they asked me for

DxDiag.txt: You can use the steps that follow to create this file:

Start --> Search --> Run --> dxdiag --> Save All Informations --> a DxDiag.txt file created.

Also a snap shot of the error message screen copy and paste to paint

Attach both files to the query you send them and they will tell you if they want any more info.
