Hi,
I don't think subtitles in Pd can be placed independently position I have tried but to no avail...but there is a workaround by creating an overlay track and then repositioning it.

I'd just like to say that Amstec raises a very important point. I too have the need to have more control over the subtitles (particularly where I want them) and currently, the only way to do it is resorting to things like what James said, which makes it more complicated.

Please Cyberlink, add more features to the subtitles room! PD17 Ult, PD16Ult, PD15ult + 13ult + 12ult

Hi,
Another thing to consider (and I don't know the difference) is that there is two choices, one the subtitles are 'embeded' in the video clip and the other is written to DVD..the way I understand things. when you go to the subtiltles menu it will ask which you want...

Hi Niel,
I think the original poster wanted the text to appear at different location tho'....and PD only shows them at the bottom of the screen, and you can't reposition them.

Hi All,
I inadvertantly did find a way to position subtitles vertically: just keep adding "carriage returns" (by hitting the ENTER key) at the end of the subtitle. Each time you do, you add a blank line to the subtitle, moving previous text up one line.

It's tedious, I know. Just as tedious as replacing subtitle lines delimited by and with real italics. You have to do it to every subtitle you want to reposition. But hey, it works. :

Given all the advanced features that PD10 has, I have to say that the subtitles feature is below the standard of all the rest.
Sometimes people make unusual interfaces for their videos, and they wish to add subtitles for the hearing impaired or as additional text and they wish to place those instructions in a text box window on the right side of the screen, etc.
Sure, that system is enough for classical movies, in the lower part of the screen, but video production is a lot more than that... you can make presentations, music videos, animations, etc. and sometimes the lower part of the screen is not necessarily the ideal place for subtitles. Hi Javisyd

There are two Title areas in PD. One is Subtitles and the other is the Title Room.

In the Subtitle Room there is almost no choice for the style and content of the tiles - BUT in the Title Room there are hundreds of Titles to choose from and even an area where you can create and save your own

A cleverly place Colour Board/Video Loop set to the right transparency can give an excellent Lower Third effect for your text sit in.

I personally have never used the Subtitle Room only the Titie Room as you can do a lot more in this area including Scrolling text up, down, sideways etc

Here's a PDtoot tutorial

Hi Jayvisyd -

For most purposes, the Title Room gives enough flexibility. If the Subtitles feature (and I don't disagree with you at all) doesn't do what you want, use regular titles.

Cheers - Tony

Neill, Tony, thanks for your posts.
Yes, I'm aware that they are completely different (I'm still a beginner, but that's one of the few things I'd learned already! lol)
I think the titles room is pretty good. But you can't add subtitles using the titles room. I mean, theoretically you could, but it would take ages! (imagine translating a full lenght movie to another language using titles!)

But the subtitles room has no additional features. Text goes where they tell you and that's it... I think more flexibility is needed.

Just another comment, check out this short clip for Title call outs, ignore last half - boring slideshow.

Your right about the limitations in the Subtitle Room

Hi amstec

Here's a tutorial from PDtoots. At the 55 sec mark they discuss the use of Titles - you can move the text by grabbing the text box and repositioning it.
