how clips on the timeline snap together

I noticed that sometimes if I shorten a clip on the timeline it snaps into place filling in the gap automatically but at other times a cap is left. For instance say I have 2 clips on the timeline and I shorten the end of clip one then clip two will snap into place and there is no gap. But if I shorten the front end of clip two it leaves a blank space which forces me to highlight all the clips that follow and drag them into place.

Is there a setting that will prevent leaving a gap?

Hi

It really does depend what is underneath the clip whether the clip 'snaps' back or not.

Some members like this 'feature' some members don't.

I had to change my workflow from using PD8 to using PD10, to perform Split>Remove and Leave Gap

Try this to Remove Gap in a 'blank' area. Right Click > Remove and Close Gap

Remove and close gap removes the whole clip. What I was doing was dragging the clip to be shorter. I didn't want the whole clip to me removed. I guess a work around with be to split the clip and then do a remove and close gap on the unwanted portion of the clip.

I'm having the same issue about 'remove & close gap' but when I right click, the "Remove & Close Gap" is ghosted and it won't let me. Anyone know why that is??? It's cost me a lot of time manually moving each photo over and my deadline is Oct 5th.

This happens when there's something in the same position on another track, remove or drag to the side which has the same vertical line gap that you want to remove AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Thank you - I will try that. Does this count for my music too?? I hope I don't have to move my music, just to close the gap.

I'm also having issues with moving any of my photos around. If I want to put a photo earlier on my timeline, cutting and pasting just doesn't work. If I "overwrite" I lose other photos and I have to re-do the duration etc, if I insert, then it splits my music. What am I doing wrong? Signed: Frustrated Newbie

The music (audio track) does not change, only to objects in the video track, in some situations AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
