Please can someone help. I have made a few home DVD,s recently with no problems burning to disk. Each movie has been approx 1 hour in duration with titles and many transitions.

I am however currently in a situation where each time i attempt to burn my new movie it wont go any further than 11%.

Does anybody have any ideas.

Thank you in anticipation.

Defrag your system before trying to burn, this may help Intel i7 930, 16GB ram, Radeon HD 5770 1Gb,Ver. 14.12 Win7 64 bit
Intel i7 7700 HQ, 16 GB ram Nvidia GTX 1050Ti 4GB dual drives 1 TB SSD + 1 TB HDD Win 10

I can confidently say that defragging is not going to help. I make sure I defrag immediately after I have captured to ensure that my clips are not all over the hard drive, and I also have the same problem with the majority of my videos, when I go to burn it will get so far and then just stop. For me, it has stopped at various percentages upto about 15% (Running PD5 Deluxe)

In my mind this is PD's greatest flaw - the reliability of the burning process must be improved. The only answer I have been able to find is to edit the video in PD, produce it to a file, and then author and burn in a third party application. I would much rather do this from within PD of course, but I'm left with no other option.

In the past, responses from tech support have simply been to re-install the program. Been there, done that, didn't make a difference.

Has anyone had similar problems with burning on PD5 Deluxe, and gone on to the Platinum edition? Are there any improvements with the burning process in Platinum?

Is is correct to assume you have successfully burnt a DVD using PD and that you're now in a position where you cant?

1. Please give details of your computer set up.
1-1. Memory
1-2. Hard drive - and present space available
2. System
3.Additional programs should also be a consideration*

The format of the files in the timeline and the size of files you're attempted to burn - you should have some idea.

I'm asking because to duplicate the situation in a control system may repeat the problem and isolate the cause. Without additional info it is very hard to provide either general help or technical assistance.

For example - you need to have sufficient working memory and adequate harddrive space not only for the files you're working but also for temporary files created during the process.

The defrag input - is really to ensure you don't gave a disjointed harddrive which you don't need when editing/deleting video files.

As for having similar problems with CyberLink PowerDirector 5 Premium - my answer is an emphatic no, I don't have.

*I have NEVER worried about what I have on my system, whenever I have written reviews on software I have always taken the view I run a "User System" and not a "Clean System" - should any clashes take place...it will show up, they rarely did! (but they do occur).

Adrian,
Thats my point,it is absolutly neccessary to defrag on a regular basis.
Cyberlink will tell you that you have no chance of a successful burn if your system is fragmented. Cyberlink also advisethat PD5 and PP3 have known conflict issues with other burning software, like Nero, Easy CD Creator, Direct CD etc. and these programs should be shutdown prior to burning. They also advised me to shutdown my firewall, anti-virus, screen savers, instant messaging software etc.
Agreed, it should not be neccessary to go to this extreme, but at least in my case it worked, I can now burn successfully every time.
This is an issue which Cyberlink need to address as a matter of urgency

Jeffree, Thank you for reminding me of things my "sponge" had forgotton. It has been a while since I loaded any of the named disc writing software - knowing the hassle that used to cause. I run P2Go on the system I use, I don't get the hassles mentioned. I have also had on my system specialist software(s) for high-end DVD writing from other companies without any bother.

The things I also do are not as "drastic" as you've mentioned but are worth noting.

I shut off the automatic update capability of the anti-virus, the automatic scan hard drive feature. I also shut down the VoIP set up. I also do not allow any exe program access to the internet without referral (some look for updates). Basically no instrusions while working on a video file or during burning. I do not shut down my firewall or any other set up.

If it works for Jeffree it might work for you.

Hello,
I have the similar problem with burning. When burning directly to DVD I get a freeze in 15%. When burning to HDD folder burning fails with 'Burning Failed! Error code: 80070057'. After whole day lost with attempts to burn my project I gave up

B,

I had this problem once. This came up when, after editing several clips in PD, for another reason, I reinstalled the product. After reinstallation, I burned the saved 'pds' files. What happens is during rendering, the PP 'took sometime' to 'recognize' the old saved pds files, which in turn, crashes the process. What I did is to open again each clip, one by one, in PD. Then burn it. Smoothly.

I have always practiced creating folders first before burning, and not direct to disc. I think this is safer. I don't think that there is quality loss, coz I cannot see any.

Firstly 'Produce' your movie in MPEG 2 format then back in Edit/Timeline add Chapters for Menu.

The first 10% of the disc burn time is to build the Menu Template
- this is when crashing normally occurs.

It's the Menu's 'Motion Menu' feature causing the freeze ups.

To disable this: In Create Disc screen go to Create Disc Preferences
- it's the crossed spanner/screwdriver icon
Then go to Menu section and Dis-Enable Video Thumbnails
and watch it fly through the burn process !!

I have had the same problems burning...

Here is my input to the support people with their replies... If anyone can help please do!

I. I have tried everything you have
suggested in all 3 answers that I have
received from you and certain files
still will not burn to the DVD folder.

II. My system has 1GB of RAM and my
working hard drive for videos is 300 GB.
I have an AMD Althon XP 2500.

III. When trying to burn to DVD folder
in PowerDirector 5.0, I am using
projects that were only created using
PowerDirector 5.0.

IV. I am not capturing my video files
directly from my camera. I have the JVC
Everio GZ-MG20U camera which I download
my videos to a folder on my hard drive
and then in PowerDirector 5.0 I am
doing File-->Import-->Media Files.

V. I have tried burning to DVD folder
the following scenarios...
(1)JVC Everio .mod files that DID burn
to DVD folder successfully
i. 1 .mod file of 212MB.
ii. 1 .mod file of 711MB.
iii. 1 .mod file of 1820MB.
iv. 2 .mod files of 424MB.
v. 4 .mod files of 525MB
(2)JVC Everio .mod files that DID NOT
burn to DVD folder.
i. 2 .mod files of 611MB - Just stops at
88% and sits there
ii. 5 .mod files of 681MB. - Just stops
at 73% and sits there
iii. A collection of .mod files of
4000MB - Just stops at 13% and sits there.
(3).wmv files that DID burn to DVD
folder successfully
i. 1 .wmv file of 711MB
ii. 2 .wmv files of 1423MB
(4).mpg files that DID burn to DVD
folder successfully
i. 1 .mpg file of 1792MB
ii. 3 .mpg files of 710MB

VI. I am seeing a pattern here for the
JVC .mod files. I can burn any single
file of any size to the DVD folder, and
I can burn more than one .mod file of
which the total size is less than 600MB
to the DVD folder, but I CANNOT burn to
the DVD folder 2 or more .mod files of
which the total size is greater than
600MB. Please let me know if this
information can help you or if I need to
do something else.

Just as a side note - I do have an
earlier version of PowerDirector that
has worked just fine. It just doesn't
have all of the whistles and bells that
version 5.0 has. I am not trying to
load projects from the earlier version
into version 5.0 either.

Thank you!

This was my reply from them...

Thank you for contacting Cyberlink Online Support.

Regarding your issue we are looking into the matter and will comment soon.

However, please let us know if the files, which you are unable to burn, are specific files or any file. I mean have you tried different combinations ofdifferent files and still could not burn two file together.

Your feedback will help us analyse the situation in a better light.

PS: Please try to burn sets of new files as well.

And this is how I answered...

I have tried combining .mod files, .wmv
files, and .mpg files. The software is
only failing on the combined .mod files.

I have also tried combining different
.mod files of new sets and they fail as
well.

1) Yes I have done different
combinations of different .mod files.

2) I just did another test with a
grouping of more than 2 .mod files of
which the total size is 554MB and it
burned to DVD folder.

3) However another test of another
grouping of more than 2 .mod files with
a total size of 586MB stopped at 87% and
just sits there.

4)So somewhere between 554MB and 586MB
of 2 or more .mod files trying to be
burned to the DVD folder is failing for
whatever reason.

5)Please understand that the program is
only failing on .mod files of 2 or more
with a combined total size of more than
554MB.

5) Please let me know if I can be of any
further assistance.

After not hearing from them for a couple of weeks I asked if anything had been found and this is the last reply I have from them...

Thank you for contacting Cyberlink Online Support.

We apologize for the inconvenience you faced due to the software.

The issue is now with the Research deapartment and we expect this concern to be addressed in the next build of Power Director software. We will provide you with the update as soon as we release the new update patch. Please bear with us for the time being.

Interesting. I too can't burn. I too have posted here. I too have a JVC Evario and .mod files.

Coincidence, I think not!
