What do you mean 'selected'? Do you mean 'after dragging them in the time line?' I think the only way is to manually adjust the duration of each photo. You are correct that only those 'selected' after the change in settings will be effected by the new setting.

I wanted to do this on a recent production because I realized the duration was not long enough. Unfortunately, the only way I could find to do it was change the duration of EACH photo. This was very time consuming. I have Power Director 4 -- perhaps this has been enhanced in PD5. Ha!

using powerdirector 5, i can only change the duration one at a time. it's amazing that they haven't improved that part of the software.

Go to where PD5Premium has File Edit View Capture Playback Help

Select:
Edit/Preferences/Editing
Look for the Durations section.
See "Image Files" and a time option - the default setting is 5 seconds.
Increase or decrease this. I set mine for 10 seconds.

Every image dropped into the timeline will display for 10 seconds.

To alter an image display time in the timeline - click on it in the timeline. Move the cursor to the edge and a grey two way arrow will display...click and drag to change and the image time display will shorten or lengthen.

Just thought I'd add:

In PowerDirector 4 Express the image files can be altered in the same way - a slightly different route to make the changes.

Select:
Edit/Preferences/General tab

Look for Durations
Image files and alter the number of secs.

Images already placed in the timeline prior to altering the Duration time will not be changed. All new inclusions into the timeline will be. Images can be altered to display longer as described above for PD5Premium.
