Getting started extreemly basic questions

I am considering purchasing PowerDirector 6. I have viewed the requirements online but I am not experienced enough to know if my hardware and software are enough. The following is what I have:
Dell Inspiron 5150 labtop computer
Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP2
MobilIntel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
1.25GB Ram
Display adapter: XGI Volari-XP5 v2.059 Dell
Audio: SigmaTel C-Major Audio
I have an external USB Maxtor 500 Gb hard drive
I am going to upload and edit older home movies that have been transferred onto a DVD. My DVD device on the computer is a NEC
DVD+-RW ND-6500A.
I transfered my VHS tapes to the DVDs using a dvd/vhs combination player/recorder. This device created a stand alone playable DVD. I can play the dvd on my computer but can PowerDirector import the video?Does the contents of the DVD it need to be "captured" using some sort of device or video card?

Hi Mark W,

Your PC/Laptop spec is fine. We'd all like to have dual core or 4 core computers but what you have will do the task of home editing. I've used similar spec and not had a problem.

Data from homemade DVD can be simple copy and paste transfer to your hard drive. You can then bring the vob files (dvd video files) into PD6's Media Library (just find/locate the files on your hard drive). I would not recommend anyone try editing a video on a dvd - just asking for trouble, always transfer to hard drive and then edit.

Hi Mark W,

I cant give you a firm answer as you have to "explore" the DVD and check out the various vob files yourself. You should easily identify the video vob file(s) you need- either play them, look at the file size etc.
