Whenever I attempt to put background music on the menu page powerdirector 6 crashes. Without the music the DVD will burn fine! Does anybody have any ideas. Thank you in anticipation.

Hope someone comes up with a response. The only music I can put in my menu is the little diddies that came with the program. Any time I use a piece of a song from an mp3 file, it hangs.

G'day guys,

More information please, Vista or XP, what build of PD6 are you using.

I have just carried out a quick test and have no problem applying mp3 music on the menu with XP.

Advise in 1, 2 3 format, each and every action you are taking and what type of files you are creating, size,Tim, you say mp3 music is hanging, at what point, when trying to add the music, when playing, does it start playing then hang?

Robert,

When creating the opening menu, I can select the song of my choice, then select the portion of the song I wish to play (MP3 format), and preview the selection without issue. The problem comes when trying to write to DVD. The system says "creating menu" and just stays there, never advancing to the next stage of burning. If I remove the song of my choice and insert one of the pieces of music provided with the program, the DVD burns properly.

I have tried this several times, with the same results. Hope you have an idea, because I've run out of them. Since I upgraded to Powerdirector 5 I have had numerous issues that were not present in previous versions. I have reinstalled the program a number of times, completely reloaded the operating system after formatting the hard drives to make sure there were no other files corrupting the system, and sent several messages to support. While they have been helpful in most cases, not all my issues have been solved. I am just about to complete a 2:30 video of one of our trips, and will be attempting to write the DVD. I will get back with any issues I have.

Thanks for your response, and sorry for being so long "winded".

Hi Tim,

If your using PD5, then you have me at a bit of a disadvantage, as I am using PD6.

What is the source of your mp3 music?, if it has protection, Power Director cannot burn it, you would need to remove protection with FreeRip or similar program.

The fact that you do not have a problem with PD5 music does indicate that your mp3 music is the cause.

Have you tried saving your project to your hard drive, then burn with a different program, Power2Go, Nero, Creative etc: if it still will not burn, then this would be futher proof that your mp3 music is the cause.

Robert,

All the MP3's have been ripped and as far as I know are not protected. I can use the same music in my timeline and have it burn properly. Confusing, isn't it? I will work on it again this weekend and see if I can determine what could be causing the failure. Thanks again.....

Hi Robert,

I have just upgraded to PD6. When using PD5 I had no problem importing music (MP3) files to the menu. Now however this is not the case. I am using XP. The problem occurs when I have imported an MP3 file (which is not protected) and then click on burn DVD. PD then completely shuts down. If however i do not import music in the menu and burn to DVD it works fine. It is nothing to do with MP3 files as the same files work fine in the timeline. Hope you can help.

Thanks,

Simon

Simon (please, alter your profile from "b" it's friendlier - we do a lot of smiling here),

Right, let me have one of your mp3's to test out. I'll send it also onto Robert and we can both test it to see if we get the same issue. I think that's the quickest way to find out about the mp3. (I'll look at it in the New Year)

The contents of the mp3 will not be used other than to test in PD and will be deleted after testing.

I've sent you a PM.

Everyone:
1. Robert has asked for the version/build of PD6 - this is IMPORTANT and a simple but essential bit of information. Kindly supply this data in your next posting.
Open PD > Help > About
Note down the information from the pop up.
2. Robert also asked for a simple 1,2,3, style presentation of reply - it's called bullet points.
2-1. This is a way to get the info to us in a format we like.
2-2. We want you to note your actions and selections - so we can check them!

Hi Simon & Tim,

I have been unable to recreate your problems.

What I did to carry out a test is as follows
PD6 Build 1731b

1. added aquarium x 4
2.created chapters x 3
3. added mp3 music to title
4. burnt disc

Disc burnt successfully, and plays with music in title.

So, as Dafydd has requested, please provide him with one of your mp3 to test out, we will then try to recreate your issues with your music.
