PDR10 Stops woking at launch

I'm hoping someone can help. I have been using PDR10 Deluxe (Win7 32bit) for about 6 months and have made some really good videos. Then about 2 weeks ago I joined the "PDR has stopped working club". I've followed this thread;

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/45/21180.page#115915

Quote"Well, this is my official goodbye to PDR. AFTER NUMEROUS INSTALLS/UNINSTALL COVERING ALMOST 2 MONTHS, AFTER RUNNING 3 DIFFERENT CLEANERS, ENDLESS COMMUNICATION (OR SO IT SEEMS) TO CYBERLINK TECH SUPPORT, I AM DONE WITH PDR."

It details the problem and the attempts to fix it. It seems to me that despite various suggestions nobody has come up with a fix. There are plenty uninstall/reinstall, clean packs, clean registeries etc etc but no fix. I have submitted a ticket and wait their response. It seems to me that if Cyberlink can't fix this very promptly then their product is not of merchantable quality. (Against the law in Australia) If it doesn't work I'll be quoting this thread and demanding a refund. Which is a real pity given the good stuff I've done over the past 6 months.

More in hope than expectation

Regards

I've experienced this too, as well as the inability to create 3DBD correctly, my belief is that PD10 is "unfit for purpose" and refunds should be available to those users unable to create media as described in the advertising information on the Cyberlink pages.

Hi Tom,
Your experience has shown you that PD10 has been working well on your system previously, I am right in that assessment of what you've written, yes?
You've quoted Jim's issue/thread/post which is dis-similar to your own by quite a degree.
In using PD10 I have had the popup message "PDR has stopped working", white screen, blue circle cursor and PD10 has to be closed or one has to wait for a recovery.
When was the last time you de-fragmented your 32bit system?
Cleared out your temp directory?
Cleaned out your My Video folder?
Please provide a diagnostic file.
Please provide a snapshot of your project in Edit (Workspace).
Please create the error message again - take a snapshot.
Have you installed a conflicting software... what changed 2 weeks ago?
Have you gone back to an earlier restore point?
Please Tom give as much information as you can.

PaulTV, You have opted for a refund. I read your processing method for your video in an earlier post on this forum. I thought at the time it was unusual and not a method many editors would adopt or find necessary.

Dafydd,

I'm sure my odd methods only stem from crazy attempts to find a suitable workflow with PD10, sorry to say I have failed, but I think maybe its simply that I have misunderstood what PD10 is capable of.

I read the description for this software carefully, with statedments such as: "PowerDirector's supports all kinds of 3D content whether from files or straight from 3D cameras/phones" and "Support for all the most popular 3D video formats: MVC (M2T), Side-by-Side, Top-Under, and Dual-Stream AVI "

I also see that in the Create Disc section, there is a button which says " Content, Import Additional Videos"

Because of these statements I believed that it would be possible to import files such as avi's from other non PD10 sources and work with them successfully, don't get me wrong, I have had some joy using native files from a Sony TD10, but everything else has problems when trying to encode a 3D BD correctly.

Oh yes, my last and final attempt was to install a clean version of 64bit win7 on a large Samsung drive, install latest graphics drivers, Bios and a fresh install of PD10. Results are exactly the same.

I conclude that PD10 isn't actually able, or is not really designed to deal with the variety of sources that is randomly claimed in the sales pitch, but will work with specific file types, this is where I've either not understood the limitaions or have been slightly misled. Either way, hopefully Cyberlink will iron out these wrinkles at some time in the future and help those people who are trying to create 3D content themselves, rather than simply watching movie clips.

Some users claim a great level of success with 3D and PD10, so I can only imagine that there's a bit of coding to sort out and all will be well.

OK, back to Scenarist and After Effects for a little light relief !

tominbrisbane.... I have used PD 10 both 32 and 64 bit.... I wish we knew why some people do not have problems and some do.... at least we would know if it was software or computer relater.. or both..

Regardless of what PaulTV says.... there are a lot of those not having problems with PD10...

Did you install anything recently? Since version 3 I have NEVER ha to reinstall PD not one time to make it work again and that was version 7, and that was because of my error. Did you update anything? Even windows update? Did you do a restore back a couple days the very first day it did not run? It will also show you what it will effect (recent updates or installs) if you roll back, and that is usually the culprit that causes the problem....

Yes, many people have solved problems with clean installs....

No PD is not perfect, nether is Sony Vegas, Pinnical Studio, AVS Video Editor, I have have those also. Like you, I have nothing but issues with one and it crashes all the time, Pinnical Studio and I never use it .... but I do admit I have not even installed it since I went 64 bit on my machine last summer... did not think it would be worth the trouble either.

If you cannot figure out what is going on with your machine and PD10, I don't blame you to use something else.... seems like most of us have more than one video editor anyway..... I still like using my OLD favorite software to burn my movie (or any other) CD/DVD's... because it is very fast and never fails to burn after 10 years of using it and its FREE.... and it is still upgraded frequently.

Dafydd,

I do not wish to appear disrespectful but the issues on the previous thread seem very relevant - PD10 stops working, poor tech support-myriad suggestions-all unsucessful.

The info you requested:

Defrag - Scheduled weekly - last one yesterday (8%)
Temp - deleted 40mb today - why should this app be affected by temp file? All other apps work without issues.
My Video - why on earth should I clean out My Videos
Diagnostic File - don't know how to do this but have sent error report to Cyberlink. In any event the app closes immediately it opens.
Snapshot - See attachment
Recent Installations - See attchment
Earlier Restore - I haven't gone to this as yet - see below

All of the above requested info suggests to me that you have to be a fairly highly qualified geek to work with PD10. If you're just an average consumer who has been using many programs for 15 years and don't get into trouble you will be completely out of your depth with PD10. I didn't purchase the program to spend weeks trying to become a geek.
Regards

To get the diagnostic file, click Start, then click Run, then type in "dxdiag" (without quotes) then click OK. Save all information, give it a name and post to the thread, do the 64bit version as well, takes two minutes....Just an FYI HP Envy 17

"My Video - why on earth should I clean out My Videos "
I was actually incorrect there. What i was after was for you to clear out the old DVD files.

Your post has been read by CyberLink and they would like your Customer Support Ticket number please.

This might help you.

Problem solved tanks to Bubba. I reinstalled Qucktime and all looks good. I don't recall seeing any reference to Quicktime dependancy when I purchased PD10. If I missed it then I apologise for previous irritation. If however there is no reference to it in the PD10 installation the Cyberlink needs 100 lashes with a wet lettuce.

Good to know it was QuickTime and not anything to do with the issue raised elsewhere. I hope the link in my post helped you.
QuickTime is an integral part of the PD10 installation. However during an uninstall-reinstall it is not part of the removal as it is a third party program. the installation of other programs including codec packs can have an adverse effect on QT and PD. This issue has been well documented on the forum.

Some 2 weeks ago you may have installed or caused an update to run for a third party program. Please be wary of installing software onto a video editing platform which may conflict with software already present.

tominbrisbane ..............

There is no reference about it from Cyberlink..... glad that helped and thanks for letting us know it helped....

As I advised in our PM's.... when PD fails to even run after install, or fails to run at some point, the first thing to check is quicktime.

And I might add, you did an interesting way to post your screen shots.... I use PPT all the time as most of my customers want PPT presentations.... (safety presentations and such) I will remember that....
