DVD Burning does not complete

I have been running PD 8 for a while now and have successfully created and burned many DVD's. However, recently, some efforts to burn a DVD do not complete. The progress bar starts, and when this problem occurs, it always stops at 21% completion. I tried changing the output to a folder on the hard drive and unchecked the box to burn the disc. The same thing occurs -- stops at 21%.

I have also reduced the size of the project. It is well below the size of the DVD -- in the last failure it was 872Mb.

I am running an i5 processor with 8gb memory and have 500 gb free space on my drive.

Any thoughts regarding what the problem is and what I need to do?

Thanks.

Any error on disk burning or disk folder before and including 21% is in the menu creation.

If you have customized the menu in any way, that may be the cause of your failure.

I would guess there is nothing wrong with your videos on the timeline, PD never gets that far if you have an error at 21%
You should try one of the default menus with no modification.

You can try burning a folder with the No Menu option and see what happens.

Be sure the the free space on the C drive is over 20 GB for DVD production or 100 GB for BluRay production.
Any other drive does not matter, the free space must be C.

Thanks. I believe you are correct. When I removed the menu, the problem disappeared. But what causes that problem? Bug in the software? As a matter of practice, should I avoid menus?

On a related issue, I did use a different menu template and it worked when I burned to a folder. But when I burned directly to a DVD, I got a message of "Burn Unsuccessful: possible causes - authoriing mgr could not do file access for temporary files.

Thanks for your help.

One of the great mysteries for Powerdirector, Some editors have all kinds of problem with disk burning. Some don't.

Usually if you are using one of the default menus, no problem.
Sometimes one of the default menus may give problem, try a different menu.

The more important condition of your computer is the Video card drivers up to date, and plenty or free space on the C drive.

If you are low on free space on C drive, you must free up some space. 20 GB for DVD, 100 GB for Blu-ray.

I have plenty of disk space so that is not the issue. Has PD ever commented on this?

Thanks again for your help.

Because you do not have enough free space on your C: drive.

You must have at least 60GB free space on C:. 100 GB is recommended.

Besides, if you uncheck Burn Disk, and check Burn Folder, you will not be making coasters.

I'm experiencing a similar problem and am ready to go to another product. Despite several back and forth emails from Cyberlink's no-help desk, it's time to ask for some help elsewhere.

Using PowerDirector 8 Deluxe. Was better off with earlier version.

After many successful experiences, i have now come to a problem with the authoring of creating discs.

Using Windows 7 - Have 174 G of space

Receiving error message "Power Director could not construct the media source as a graph. This may be due to a lack of decoding filters for the file you are trying to edit.

System quits.

started with a new project and same problem.

At the direction of the help person, I upgraded all the drivers. ($30.00) with a program.

No different result.

Peforming a 3rd project right now and eliminated my music and now a 64% authoring - but this has taken an hour so far.

Upon complete failure the other error message states: Burn unsuccessful Possible causes - AuthoringMgr could not do file access for temp files.

Dave, You should have started your own new topic, on the top to the PD 8 and earlier is a Post New Topic.
This is a old thread started January 29, 2012.

We do not know the condition of your computer or the version and build of your powerdirector.

Why did you pay $30 to upgrade drivers? All drivers are available online at the manufacturer's web sites for free.
