After getting my first analog old tape to Capture into PD10 ( driver problem with 1394 firewire) I have the first production ready to burn to DVD, but alas ! I get the infamous "Insert blank disk or rewriteable disk and try again" message. I am using a new DVD + R disk, 4.7 GB, for data and video, and yes it has been formatted for video. I tried this in both D & E DVD drives, same message. Obviously PD10 is not seeing the disk for some strange reason that eludes me. I am sure that someone has seen this previously and can enlighten me as to it's cause.

Thank you in advance,

Hi,
I don't think you can format a DVD for data then try and burn a DVD video, a DVD-video disk is different structure. what program are you using to BURN the DVD? 3D party or Power Director? Try using a blank non formatted DVD.
If you have (or have access to a 3d party DVD burning software) you can burn to folder then use the #d party burning to burn that folder.

Good morning Jim, thank you for your reply. I used Windows 7 format program. It asks if the DVD is for Text/Data or Video, of course I chose Video. I will try another DVD, and then another program if necessary. Attitude + Behavior = Performance

Hi
DON'T use Windows 7 format utility if you are going to use disk for video wrong format. Just put the blank DVD in burner let the Video burning program format it as required, and sometimes it is better burn if you use slower speed not max burn speed. click the cog in corner and lower speed you get better burns..

Hi Jim, I will try that right now, just got back home.

I see you live in Surrey, B.C., back in 2007 we took a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer from Baniff to Vancouver, however there was a train wreck several miles west of Camloops, so we have to take a tour bus from Camloops to Vancouver via route 5 and route 1 which brought us right through your city. Jim, it is working fine, I took another blank DVD, and it is working fine. Strange how one formatting program for videos works and one does not.

Thanks again Jim,

Hi,
Glad you got it working....I usually buy some re_writable DVD's and burn small project to them first to check the quality and to fix any thing in menu system before committing to a DVD-r. I get the bugs out without wasting DVD-r's.

Good idea Jim, I am in the process of converting 7 8MM movies tapes from our older Analog movie camera, 1990's vintage. Then I will move on to all of our Digital Movie camera tapes , many more of those. I plan to use the DVD's later to go back and edit and add etc, once I get comfortable with PD10, I have never used video editing programs previously, so I have a learning curve to climb. The final versions will be on BluRay disks as my PC has two Bluray recorders. The blank disks are very expensive, so I will make sure I do things properly before burning those babies!
