So I am making edits with GoPro videos and when I produce, the video, in the same two places, will take the first frame of these two clips and freeze it for the duration of that clip. It does this everytime I produce. Nothing is wrong with the source files. What do I do? thanks

It may be your computer.

Could it be the "fast rendering technology" (i think its called velocity or something, it is by default checked off)?

It could many things, that is why the request for information.

The DXdiag gives a great deal of information about your computer. Nothing personal except the name of the computer.
There are lots of editors in the forum world wide that are very knowledgeable, somebody may know what the problem is if we have the information.

Just the latest update, should be 1129b.

The instructions on the dxdiag.txt file is in the link I posted in my first reply. It is Part B. Part A is the version and build number of your Powerdirector.

Please provide answers to the following in your post on this forum.
1. Which operating system do you use, W7, Vista, XP? W7
2. Which version of PD, See Part A below
3. Which SR number (available in the "About" box of PD and is NOT the CD-Key!)
4. What kind of video source material used (codec / container), extension? We often ask for a 5 to 10 second sample , please provide one as an attachment. GoPro
5. A detailed step by step description of the problem. See Part D below. When producing, frames freeze randomly. But it works fine in the editor
6. What anti-virus solution is installed on your PC? Macafe
7. What codec packs installed? The windows codec package
8. What other video editing programs are installed - just in case there is a software conflict. windows move maker
9. What burning software is installed on your PC? not burning
10. What type of blank disk was used, if you have a burning create issue? none
11. What background processes / programs running (especially important for problems with the burning)? browser
12. Provide the dxdiag log file as an attachment, see Part B below

G'day Nick -

Thanks for posting your PC's specs. It tells a lot.

Depending a bit on the recording mode you're using on the GoPro, that laptop is always going to struggle. Mid range processor, low end graphics, 4GB RAM & almost NO free space on the C drive.

Even with 720p, it might have trouble. I know this because my laptop's in the same league! (I rarely use it for editing).

PD (any NLE really) is going to need a lot more grunt & headroom than that in order to function well.

Sorry - Tony

Use a workaround. Produce your finished product on disk (suggest AVCHD or BluRay) including the frozen video sections. Then capture, from your disk, the program with Director10 and edit out the bad sections. Then, burn a new disk, in the same format as before, which should produce a video without any frozen frames. True you lose some information but not much if your program is 45 minutes to an hour long. I am editing 3D from a Canon Camera and have noticed that my video freeze sections tend to take place indoors with limited light. Outdoor frames do not freeze. I suspect we may be dealing with a dropped frame phenomena.
Hope this helps.

My project involves multiple softball highlight video clips (of my daughter's team), plus pictures, some music and a few transitions. All in all the project is 56 minutes in length.

This was my first time using anything other than Sonic for creating DVDs, but PD seemed like a very fun program to use. At first, it would constantly crash my computer (during everything from editing, saving and burning), but the service pack(s) fixed that issue and the DVDs burn without issue now.

That being said, I have now burned the project 3 separate times onto 3 different DVDs. However, when I QC each DVD, there are at least 4-5 times that the video (not the audio) will freeze on each DVD during playback until the next clip starts and then all is well (until the next glitch). AND, the glitches never happen in the same place on the DVDs. One DVD may have an issue in Chapter 4, but another DVD plays Chapter 4 just fine and has an issue in Chapters 5 and 6.

Any suggestions?

You need more RAM
Your video card is integrated, way too weak...unless you have switching graphics.
Please do the DX again, this time, in the same interface, create the 64bit dxdiag and post with the other.
Also, try slowing down your burn speed, that may work.
Try other brand of DVD. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

I too have the same problem. I ran the demo version for a few days and never experienced the freeze issue. As soon as i paid for the software, the problem started the first time I tried to produce. I completely re-created the project and still have the same problem.

It seems to be worst on MPEG-4 and at times the software will freeze during rendering and I need to CNTL-ALT-DEL to get out.

The only difference was the demo version was ultra and the purchased version was deluxe.

Is there a reason that the demo worked well but the purchased version doesn't?

I would think the difference between Powerdirector Ultra and Powerdirector Deluxe is enough.

Powerdirector Ultra (Demo) is a 64 bit program where Powerdirector Deluxe is a 32 bit program.

Because of that difference the two different versions perform much different on the same computer.

Powerdirector Deluxe only uses a maximum of 4 GB or less of the available RAM and all functions are 32 bit instead of 64 Bit.

Thank you for the information. That answers the question perfectly.

I should have done more reading before I selected the less expensive version I guess.
