upgraded to PD10. Now trying to uninstall PD8 by using control panel, add/remove. First strange message: "Cyberlink Power Director was detected on your system. Please uninstall first. do you want to uninstall? Y/N" After Yes, second strange message "Error: Product definitation file lost. Ok" (Yes, that is their spelling of definition). How do I get rid of 750MB of PD8?

G'day Pete -

Yes - "definitation" got me the first time I saw it!

Is PD8 still present on your system? or does the installer just think it's there? Does it (now) appear in the list of installed software in Control Panel > Add/Remove?

Attached is a CLcleaner tool that might help you.

Cheers - Tony

However, the cleaner is worthless. After less than a second of operation the program reported Uninstall is Complete, but all the files still exist including the registry and the icon still works. BUT the program is no longer listed in the control panel-add/remove. Some cleaner..... Can I install PD8 again and then work back?

Pete -

Maybe it was the wrong tool for the job. That's a CyberLink tool that was provided for users having trouble uninstalling.

You say the program runs even after you've uninstalled it in Add/Remove?

OK - Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version) - http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html - and run it to uninstall:

PowerDirector, PhotoNow, SmartSound

** Set it to do a moderate registry scan, then delete all registry entries in bold.

Hope that helps.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Pete

You could try this method of deleting PD8 from a very wise man. It worked for me

a. Start--> Programs -->Cyberlink PowerDirector --> Uninstall PowerDirector
b. Start --> Run --> type "regedit" --> click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" --> click "Software" --> click "Wow6432Node" --> locate & expand "Cyberlink" --> Delete the "PowerDirector" folder
c. Start --> Run --> type "regedit"--> click "Hkey_Current_user" --> click "Software" --> locate & expand "Cyberlink" --> Delete "PowerDirector" folder.
d. Delete C:\Programs Files\Cyberlink\PowerDirector
e. Reboot your PC.
F. Install PowerDirector

Hi Pete

If the previous info I posted didn't work, here's another method from another wise man

1. Delete C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector folder
2. Delete C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1} folder
3. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run, type “regedit” and click OK to start Registry Editor.
(1) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector
(2) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
(3) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield Uninstall Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
(4) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}

"You say the program runs even after you've uninstalled it in Add/Remove? " No, Add/Remove didn't work (see first message) and the Cleaner only removed the listing from the Add/Remove list not any of the program files. Therefore was still able to run program. See you're from Aust. Had a great time there 14 months ago. Primary reason was sailing in the Whitsundays but spent another 10 days roaming around the eastern part of the country including Sydney of course. Sure has gotten expensive since my last visit in 1965.

Will try the other suggested methods.
