There are a number of posts concerning FRAPS.
Try a search, and see what you may glean from the resulting posts. My first idea is to convert the file in another software, but try the search. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Hi,

i checked the file and it does not have "good" audio in any player.

I would suggest you check your "FRAPS" settings.

I dont Think it is Fraps Because it used to work and then suddenly it wouldent, and theres No settings for that on Fraps.

Also when i tried to enter Them first time there was something with register and try 30 days even though i had registred, and activated.
Can it be Because i Said No to smartsound?

Hi-

I ran a test with my FRAPS and the avi file imports into PD10 okay, plays fine.

I noticed in your DX file that your USB audio capture & Realtek device drivers are a little out of date?

Also, was Nero installed before and it was working correctly or was Nero installed after.

What about Quicktime, current and updated?

Just guessing basically, however can you post a Media Info file for your FRAPS avi file, just curious if it will match mine.

Michael, there are no settings to adjust audio in FRAPS, FYI.

Dave

Edit - I downloaded the file and didn't hear any screeching sound (must be old), my son (much younger) who is sitting in the other room asked me what the heck I was doing because the sound coming from the laptop was very annoying, yes he said it was screeching very loudly, so I had him verify in both WMP and VLC. Yep!

I can confirm Dave's findings with FRAPS videos in PD. On my PD10, there was no sound distortion. I can also confirm there are no options for switching audio recording format.

According to http://www.fraps.com/faq.php when FRAPS is installed some video & audio codecs are installed. The audio in screen captures is in PCM format... see MediaInfo report from screen capture.

Make sure those codecs are present on your system (Video: Fraps Video Decompressor, Audio: PCM) - run a DxDiag or similar tool. If they're not present, that might be the issue... reinstalling FRAPS would resolve that.

Cheers - Tony

EDIT! Turns out I wasn't confirming Dave's observations after all! Still - no screeching here in PD, WMP, or VLC.

Tony if you can get someone about 15-20 years old to listen to the video, they may here the screeching...or for that matter if anyone else in the forum possibly could download the produce file and have someone younger listen to it, would confirm the screeching.

Japseyz, to update you will have to go to the manufactures website for your gear and get the updates from them, try a re-install of Fraps, might help as Tony said. HP Envy 17

I think we have crossed wires Dave. My fault - didn't read your comment carefully enough.

I have no screeching in the FRAPS files I recorded & imported into PD (or when they're played in media players).

YES - I can hear the distortion in the .MPG file attached to the post above... & I don't have 20 year old ears! (Did you know our ears are at their best at about age 9 & from then on it's all downhill??? - true)

Cheers - Tony

This might be related to a problem I have. PD has trouble with certain sound files. The length shown for the imported clip is wrong, and they either don't play to the end or I get a squeal followed by silence. I think the latter means that PD tried to play the entire clip at once.

The workaround was to bring each clip into WaveEditor and save it as a new clip. WaveEditor was able to read them, and saved them in a format that PD was happy with. Jerry Schwartz

Go here:

http://www.realtek.com/downloads/

Identify the audio chipset you have in your computer.

Search for the Realtek chip set you have and download that driver.

Save As it to a location on your hard drive where you can find the file.

Once the file is downloaded, double click that file and the driver will be installed.

What is the attraction with FRAPS anyway?
I know many people use it, but aren't there less troubling free screencaps out there?
Or does FRAPS just not on good terms with PD, but OK in other NLE's?

Barry, FRAPS is used by a lot of gamers for recording their game play and then uploading to YT. Quality wise, its pretty good at it.
