Amen to PDR 10
[Post New]
Great job! Well, at least I hope so. Finished shooting a full length feature in 3D and now I hope to finalize it with PDR 10. My main tools are:

MB 775 DDR2 Bio
CPU 775 E7500 (with fan)
RAM DDR2 2GB/ 80 x 2
VGA 1GB/D5.GTX 460/256bit
and LG 2342P (3D) Monitor

First, Is this enough for feasible (partial) production?
if, I got this set up in a whole new computer than where my original 9PDR is, so how can I upgrade it to PDR 10? Got the original email confirmation of the previous order...

Cheers and happy holidays,

Beck

Hi Kikkeri -

On the basis of
(a) the benchmark tests below
(b) the RAM being only 2GB (or is it 4GB?),
and
(c) the 3D HD clips being 1920x1080 @ 28MBps

... I'd say it's going to be tough going for your PC. Most editors would recommend using a quad core processor. Yours falls a little below the minimum requirements for 3D editing for PD10 http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/requirements_en_AU.html - & those a quite conservative!

CPU: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Duo+E7500+%40+2.93GHz

GPU: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+460

I'd guess at saying you might need to work on very short projects with 3D editing, to nurse your PC along.

Cheers - Tony

ynotfish, thanks for your hasty reply.

I`m not a pc-magician, I believe in easy user interfaces like Mozilla, Win 7 or PDR. This system one could edit the program (in bits) with the overlay I got from my PC expert friend who said that this "could be" enough to edit the movie in bits (12mins) within reasonable speed. I got 4 Ram (2x2) and got a promise from my friend that I could overclock the cpu for faster speed but all this is mambo jambo for me. Questions remain...

All I know is that Im familiar with the PDR and I`d save a bundle of grief if I was able to go with this program... as Im on a major tiny budget.

Sorry about the mumbo jumbo.

I was just trying to say that 3D HD editing is hard work for a PC.

We have a lot in common. I like simple user interfaces too... & I like PD. AND we're both on a tight budget!

OK - if you wish, accept your friend's advice and see how you go. Good luck with it.

Cheers - Tony

Overclocking is good and bad.... Good if you want a tiny bit of speed.... bad if you want your CPU to last as long as it should. Overclocking also increases any problems you might have when running some software that is already finicky... not to mention having your CPU run hotter..... My desktop is overclocked, but I also have a better improved heat management system than what came on my CPU... And it is only overclocked a tiny bit.... if I overclock more I tend to get problems..... and I did it for one articular game I no longer play... To be honest, most people only do it are die hard gamers. I do not see any increase in speed visually even though it tells me it is a little faster.

Overclocking and politics are both a personal choice....

Neither are actually needed for the average shmoo......

"Download the Trial Version",

Thx Bubba, will do so. Seems like sensible thing to do. Just to let you know, moved to Bangkok (cheap to live while not earning) and bought this additional desktop PC just to solely serve this 3D editing purpose as its going to be several months task to finish.

P.S. Btw, looking for a producer ;)

I have similar problems. I started with PowerDirector 7.0, my last one was 9.0Ultra64. Have installed PDR 10, the output quality is so bad like I've never seen it before, certainly below PDR 7.0. All clips, no matter if mpeg, avi, mp4, no matter if deinterlaced, progressive or whatever have a wave-like distortion. Removing PDR10 and reinstalling 9.0 solves the problem. The same clip edited in 9.0 is lightyears better. Then I read it could be a problem of Codec Packs. Removed the only one I had (K-Lite). Then reinstalled PDR 10 -> just the same. I'll now remove it for the last time and in long term look for another product. I don't think it makes sense to wait for 11.0.

I know Im just on verge of what is feasible for producing 3d files with PDR10...
But I was actually seeing some of my 3D shots via PDR10 burned files on my LG 23" inch 3D screen which was impressive as there arent that many options around today. However what this trial version isnt telling me is that are these same lacks (maybe the patch will help?) going to be in the original full version? I know my com isnt the master of all the coms but it surely backs some power even to compared to some "heavy" gaming coms... Who has more for "just" editing?
[Post New]
After over clocking and tweaking my com with my pals help I decided to go and buy the real PDR 10 ultra thing for my 3D production. There was some hesitations but I"ve seen fast responses on issues and that gives me additional comfort though there seems to be stack of unsolved issues. I hope to help in some of the issues (if possible) but naturally would be delighted to have solutions to my probs as I go.

Got feature (1.40hr) 3D movie to do and its by no means an easy task...

All the help out there is more than welcome.

Cheers,

Kikkeri
