Just to check that my understanding is correct please ...
If I pack a project does this mean that it copies all files and that I can, if I wish, then delete from my pc the original files used. These may be videos, pictures, sound files, whatever. CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)

It's just as you say. The name of this feature may confuse you a bit though. 'Pack' doesn't mean any kind of compressing or merging files. Discrete files that are part of the project are saved anew in the folder you select on running this process. I find it convenient for archiving, especially when the project files have been taken from rather different locations as this puts them all in a single place...

Thanks for your confirmation. That was my hope ... to get 'real files' all 'packed' into one folder and saved on an external HD. Great feature. CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)

Yes... once you have packed your project into the folder of you choice. I would name the folder something like I do. EX: 2012 Seniors Show...

Once it is packed, there are copies of EVERYTHING in that folder. If you are like me, many years ago I would always go look first before I would delete all my originals, and sure enough they are all always there.

I have a folder called PD Packed Projects with sub folders of my projects. When I need to save a new project just use the new folder option on the bottom of the save window

As Bolda suggests.... after packing your projects, you used pics, vids, files are no longer scattered all over your hard drives and folders. Just re-pack your project from time to time and everything is in one box. Remember that just a normal save does not.

One more thing, important. The PPM function only makes exact copies of what you have placed in the project timeline.
If you wish to keep ALL the related files together, you must cut&paste or copy&paste the unused files to your PPM folder. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Just to emphasize what Barry has said. The Pack Project function only makes a copy of the items that are used in the timeline.

Any unused media in the library will be omitted from the pack location. There are certain other things that are not included in the 'Pack location', but I am not sure what they are. Maybe someone who knows will chime in so that you will be aware of what you will not have after packing.

What I have a habit of doing, before I pack a project. I insert a spare track(s) and copy all unused media from the library to the new track. Then pack the project.

Anything NOT actually used in the timeline will not be packed.... __________________________________________

Hi -

This has been well written up within these forums, but the dysfunctioning search doesn't allow me to find it.

There are some customised effects that do not get copied into the Packed Project folder. Cranston mentioned it here http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/posts/list/2402.page#8438 & I summarised it here http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/posts/list/2713.page#9652

Cheers - Tony

Good idea Halcon because like I stated earlier it only paks your actual pic/videos/audio files actualy used in the timeline and your pds file.......that's it.... normally I pak when I think I am done with it because I keep ALL my items used in the same project folder.... __________________________________________
