Hello, I have the trial version of PowerDirector 10. I searched through the forum for information on splicing videos, but don't see anything. I looked at the tutorials, but don't see anything to help me learn how to do this. There are middle parts of videos I'd like to be able to cut out. Can someone walk me through this like I'm in kindergarten? Or... make a video tutorial of how to do it? I am wanting to buy this program if I can figure out how to do this one thing. Thanks so much.

Hi Jaclin -

"Splicing" is not a currently used digital video editing term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_splicer Maybe that's why you've had trouble searching for it.

All you need to do is line up your clips in the timeline, remove the sections you don't want, then Produce your edited video.

Removing unwanted sections can be done by splitting the clip & taking out parts, or by using PD's Trim function.

Here are some tutorials that deal with basic editing in PD. They were made in PD8 &, even though PD10 is a different kettle of fish, the same basic procedures apply.

Thanks so much Tony for coming to my rescue. I guess I gave away the fact that I'm a newbie by not using the correct terminology. I'm going to go look at all of the links that you sent to me. I really appreciate your help and I also appreciate that you were able to do it so quickly. THANK YOU!!!!!!!! If I'm still too stupid after watching the videos, I may need to come back for a little tweaking.

Tony,

I'm working on a video, needed a break.
Not that I "need" the tutorials you posted here (as I think you know),
I just jumped in and watched them. Long time since.
Man- they are good!!
All the stuff here and there going on. Quite a bit of work.
Think I'll have to dive in to tuts when 11 comes out!

....and cheers to you

Just something.

Hi there,

I think one cool feature should be mentioned in this context: scene detection. You may appreciate being able to automate splitting your footage to scenes first to deal with each resulting clip without much manual search.

I don't know why but the feature doesn't work for me using the Seek By button within the Preview Player Controls. It does work by right-clicking on a video file in the Library Window and selecting Detect Scenes. The most basic use is by clicking on the Detect button in the Scene Detection popup window with the default setting.

Happy editing...

Guess I'm not as stupid as I thought. hahaha The video link for the tutorial was fabulous. Again,
I really appreciate that you took the time to help me. I had made a video that was rather long of
my parrot talking. There were long breaks in between him saying anything. I wanted to take those
parts out. Thanks to you and your help, I was able to do that. THANK YOU!!!!!!! My husband just
went online and bought the program for me!

What a wonderful little forum we have here. Thanks for all of the replies. I just can't express how excited I was to be able to do this. Such a simple thing to most of you.... but a big thing for me. I have much to learn and I look forward to this old dog learning some new tricks!

Jaclin -

WOW! You're a quick learner! Well done.

In the forum, you'll find many people who are happy to share the benefit of their experience with PD. We all learn lots from this kind of interaction. Lately, I've been learning from my mistakes - which means that I'm learning heaps!

Nina - thank you for your greeting & appreciation.

Cheers - Tony
