It is a analog to digital converter, it is supposed to get everything you can out of a VHS tape.
Like Bob1432 said it is a bit expensive.
I like the result I get with a stand alone VCR/DVD recorder. The DVD looks pretty good from a VHS tape.
Being analog you will never get a copy that is equal to the original tape.
