I have been searching high and low and haven't been able to find anything on what the process is for restoring old VHS tapes once you get them recorded into Power Director 9. I have a Super VHS tape deck I bought off of Ebay (though I haven't tested it yet) and my idea is to record the VHS video into the computer via a USB video capture type device. My question becomes, are there any filters are processes I can use in Power Director to then clean up the old video? Or am I looking at a different kind of software for my needs? Thanks.

I do not know if what you need to do is in Powerdirector.

Powerdirector does have a video enhancement function, it is found in the Fix/Enhance.

What you might need to do is greatly dependant on the condition of your VHS tapes and what speed they were recorded at and your capture method.

There are very good quality Capture devices and there are not good quality Capture devices. You want to use the best capture device you can afford.

Video Capture device.
This is a high quality device.

It is a Analog to Digital converter, It connects to your firewire port rather than USB.

Thanks! That looks like a solid device, but it is really out of my budget range. After looking at the VHS tapes, they aren't too bad really. I don't know if I will have to do much cleanup at all.

Do you own a video camera with AV to DV functionality?
I use my Canon Elura 100, via firewire.
Do not expect, using anything, to get the quality that is on the tape. That is my experience. Anyone else get the same quality on tape? I'd like to know. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

I would like to see the output from this device:

It is a analog to digital converter, it is supposed to get everything you can out of a VHS tape.
Like Bob1432 said it is a bit expensive.

I like the result I get with a stand alone VCR/DVD recorder. The DVD looks pretty good from a VHS tape.

Being analog you will never get a copy that is equal to the original tape.

Hi, Picked this post up. I am trying to pass Hi 8 from anolog cam through dv cam, settings and connections are correct. Picture shows on capture screen, but will not record, message says 'No tape in cam' I have just put up a post about it. Friend has Magix software and can do it very easily. Could be Cyberlink not up to the task.

There a a lot of posts that are saying the Cyberlink's capture is not working correctly for DV cameras.

One suggestion is to use Windows Live Essentials: Movie Maker.

Hi Thanks for that. Friend gave me Movie Magix pro plus 10, have installed on my spare computer running XP. No problems, works perfect. Cyberlink should be able to do this basic kind of thing. Shame on them. Kind of you to reply. Best Wishes, Lonnie.
