Can PowerDirector 10 Ultra create 5.1 blu-rays?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I'm considering purchasing PD Ultra 11 to edit the video that my new Panasonic TM900 camcorder produces. I want to be able to burn Full HD (1080/50i) videos with 5.1 surround sound to Bluray, as this is what my camcorder produces (in accordance with AVCHD). I recently bought Sony Vegas Home Studio 11 and it seems that this is not possible I also would like to be able to burn full HD video to DVD.

So, my question is two-fold:

1, Can PD Ultra 10 burn 5.1 surround sound Blu-rays? (BTW: I'm not interested in Bluray menus ect, but that function would be a bonus)

2, Can PD Ultra 10 burn HD AVCHD videos to DVD blanks natively?

Any advice would be very useful!

Hi,
1. Yes.
Please look up the tutorial: How to produce 3D BD Disc.
8th one down the list: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/19405.page

2. yes, the tutorial isn't loaded but PD10 can.

Many thanks Dafydd, that's good news

I assume I can try all of this in the trial version before buying?

... And one final question if I may: is it easy to mix SD and HD footage in on project and render it to Bluray?

Hi,
1. You'll have to check the trial limitations and I'm guessing 5.1 would be one of those limitations. Check out the trial. You'll still be able to use the earlier PD you have on your system.
Purchasing a full build of PD10 (not the upgrade) will allow you to have the present and past PD on your computer.
2. Mixing footage - yes well, that's an area I'd rather you experiment with as the variation on mix available could or might be ok or not. Just remember you cant improve rubbish footage or lower resolution footage just by including it in a different higher spec output file. Lower res will look lower res when run next to HD etc.

No problem, as long as it's possible to mix the two then that's fine.

It's a shame the trial version is limited. But I'll check it out nonetheless.

Hi,
I have mixed SD and Hi-def footage in PD10 Ultra with no problem, but you do not get the Hi-Def quality in the SD videos (just a better quality SD), and you have to plan your project as (in my case) the SD videos have Black on eaither side.

Many thanks Jim, that's great to know. I'm just installing the trial now, so hopefully I'l be up and running soon.

How do you find Power Director in general? Have you made any Bluray discs yet with it?

Handle....

Let me put it this way. The software can "handle" the footage but can your PC handle the workload!

I have a small project currently being worked on, containing some 31 video tracks, about 45 separate videos made up of mainly HD (1080p 60fps) with a few (10+) specialist animation SD video I have created. Motion paths, video crop, overlays, still images and effects play a part in the (30 seconds of) video. My PC is "on the edge", just as I am while editing ha ha.

Yes, PD10 can handle 1080p mts video.

Agreed. Running any files will not always depend on the software you are using, but also in the machine you have. If yours is on high-end, then you don't have to worry running HD files.

Hi Crashed,
I like the program a lot, I have tried two other editors but Poser director beats the socks of them. As for burning Blu Ray I have burned to blu ray-Re just to test nothing for a final project, I made some projects to Experiment with the 3D option and burned a Blu Ray project just to see if my Panasonic Player and what it looked like on our 50" Pnansonic. It was good but not the quality from a store bought movie., but I used footage from a canon Sd and a JVC Hi-Def.

Excellent feedback Jim, much appreciated. I find the rendering to be far quicker than anything else I've tried so far.

Hehe, great news Dafydd. Well, after a bit of playing with the software today and Jim's recommendation, I've gone ahead and purchased it. Looking forward to creating some great blurays/DVDs!

My 3d project stops at 22% while burning on a blue ray disk every time, no matter what kind of menu i choose or even without a menu. I have tried everything so far and no luck, any suggestions?

Hi,
try lowering the speed of the burning drive...sometimes that eliminates a lot of problems, including playback..

Hi Elina

Further to what Jim has suggested.

What is at the 22% mark on your timeline/storyboard. A transition, effect, rogue video file???

If there is something there, remove it an try again. Happing editing

Best Regards

Neil

Thank you!
but again, i tried everything, including removing everything that i've created leaving a pure movie, but still the same problem. i've been looking for a program that edits and outputs a 3d project to a blu ray for so long and finally when i thought i found it, it still gives me problems. I have a whole year worth of 3d footage to burn and still cant even produce one disk!!!!
Nobody else has any problems with burning 3d project on a blu ray? Thank you,

Elina

Elina -

Maybe I missed it, but have you tried burning the video without any menu at all?

What happened to the topic? 5.1 BR?

Forget what I asked! http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21603.page#115066

Cheers - Tony
