Computer Locks Up at 1:45 into a 3 minute video during HD production

I have a desktop built by a local company that has made me several computers over the years. It has 1 TB storage, 8 GM Ram, an Intel i5-2500 @ 3.30GHz processor. I also have a ATI-5570 video card. I am working on a particular video involving two diferent HD cameras, but it is not even three minutes long. No matter how I try to produce it, the computer locks up at 1:45 into production or 68%. Don't know what to do. I downloaded files to a flash drive and took it to my wife's laptop the has half the disk space, half the ram and a slower processor (also Windows 7 64-bit). She does have a different video card an ATI HD 5650. I have no problem producing the video at any quailty or setting on her computer. Whats going on?

Try putting the footage into a new project file on your computer and see if you can produce it then.

Hi

Further to what Clancy has said - what is at the 1:45 time mark on your storyboard. A transition? Another video type? A colour board? If there is something there delete it and try producing again.

Also what profile are you using to produce?

I tried putting all the files I needed into another project folder. Same result. However, as I stated earlier, it worked on my wifes laptop which is not near as good a system as mine from the information downloaded to a flash card. There is a treansition there (overlap) at the sticking point and I removed it and the production continued to 99% (less than one second to go) and it froze again?! Yes there is also a change in cameras there as well, but like I said this all works with less than half the cmputing power on my wifes laptop.

I have tried producing it in MPEG-4 best quality and H.264 avc 1920x1090. Again these worked on the other computer.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

Hi

At least we're getting somewhere

What's at the 99% point?

Also, try producing as an MPEG2 HD 1080 profile. This renders at 1920x1080 too. Happing editing

99% point is in the middle of the ending transition. I am giving up for now. I just tried to upload another video to YouTube and PD9 has quit twice. Never been a problem before. I am baffled by all of this. Heading out for a coctail and some dinner and maybe something to Burn PowerDirector in.

Ok, we've established that your computer 'struggles' with transitions - this is probably due to the fact your graphic card is inadequate.

You could try a different transition default (overlap or cross). This can be found in the settings.

Otherwise a new graphic card could be the answer.

Good luck

Could you recomend some cards that would be adequate. I have recently begun to think the card just can't handle what I am asking it to do.

Thanks

Hi

Before you go buying a new graphic card please post a diagnostic file of your system.

The Cyberlink Support has asked me to do this. I will do it, but it is not the first time they have asked me to do this with general crashing problems. Thanks, but I still need to have some info on better cards than I have. It only gets a 5.1 score on my Windows 7 Computer perfromance ratings, my lowest score of any of the ratings. All others are over 6. My wifes laptop is 6 for her graphics card. Something is not adding up.

Hi,

Go into 'Preferences' -> 'Hardware Acceleration' and make sure both boxes are unticked. See if that helps matters.

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks Norm. I changed alot of things on PD9 since posting this. Andrew's suggestion was one of the things I did. I no longer have the problem, but not real sure what thing or things fixed it.
