I have a 1hr 33 minute video for the first time. It's size is about 9.5GB in High Def (not Blue Ray) and it won't fit in a 4.7GB DVD that I have.
Are there larger sized DVDs, not Blue Ray? EVGA (132-BL-E758-TR) X58 ATX

Thanks for your reply.
It seems that the largest size DVD is 8.5GB, which will accommodate MPEG-4 at 7.9GB.
High Definition will take up 9.4GB. So it seems I am out of luck for the HD. Is that correct?

I am a little confused as to what you mean by high def (but not blueray) are you planning on AVCHD profile or are you using "HQ" a DVD profile (or template in produce module).

There are NERO or POWER2Go (a cyberlink product) which will scale down a 9.5GB file to 8.5 GB to fit on a dual-layer DVD. Within PD9 the smartfit option does not do that good a job of shrinking the file and keeping the quality good.

What player is the target, as most Blueray players will play about any format, but most DVD (even the newer upscalers) will not play AVCHD or mpeg4 disks? RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB GDDR6

Hi Rocket-Scientist, I say HD meaning my AVCHD recording which I Produce as H.264 and then choose HD DVD for Burning with PD9.
I play these DVD+R (4.7GB) in my Sony Blue Ray player and it's very sharp on my HD LCD screen. I have never used a BD disc since I only have a regular DVD burner.

Does the 8.5GB, double layer DVD need a specific DL burner?

yes, older single layer burners can not do the DL, saw a $18 DL burner on newegg, but you had to bundle a 2TB HDD to get that price. Newegg has a bunch of DL for good prices, they are dumping everything to switch to BR. RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB GDDR6

I guess my choices are either DL burner for 8.5GB DVD DL discs or just change over to Blueray Disc which I guess it's inevitable.
I rarely do videos over 1 hr but I have another one coming up at the end of the year which may run 2 hrs, for foreign trip.
The BD burners are around $100 and of course, the more expensive BD discs.
Are you considering going to Blue ray Disc?

Hi rcalzadilla -

Obviously, AVCHD DVDs can't store huge amounts of video. They're burned at bitrates up to about 17-18MBps, & up to 1920x1080. A regular DVD is burnt @ about 9MBps in 720 x 576 (PAL), or 720 x 480 (NTSC).

If you're unable to burn to a DL disc, & you don't want to split your project, it may be worth considering creating your AVCHD in 1280X720... but I doubt that it would fit on a single disc anyway.

That's why I use a media player connected to the HD TV. Quality options/size is only limited by the size of the USB hard drive.

Cheers - Tony

ynotfish, splitting my project is something I hadn't thought of.
I already built my timeline for the whole project. Can I split it in two and not loose the second part of the timeline?

Do you know how many minutes, in HD, will fit into a 4.7GB disc? EVGA (132-BL-E758-TR) X58 ATX

In HD (1920x1080), a little over 30 minutes (without a menu) will fit on a standard DVD.

To split your project:
1. Choose an appropriate point in the timeline - Split - Save project
2. Save project AS (say) Disc_1
3. Remove everything after the split.
4. Open original project
5. Remove everything before (!) the split
6. Burn the 2 discs from the separated projects.

Cheers - Tony
