Rendering advice needed

Hi all--

Noob here to PD and am having a blast...however....I need some experience in a hurry.

I have a 5 minute 720x480 clip littered with 26 subtitles. To add dialogue, I need to email the clip repeatedly, making sure that my editing syncs with the translation.

I basically need to know what settings would facilitate the communication process. I'd LIKE to shrink the frame size to 320x240 and butcher the audio, all in an effort to make a very small but viewable 'preview' of what I've done without chopping the video length. I'd like to keep the 5 minutes intact. Because of the many settings in the PRODUCE tab, I was hoping an experienced PD might clue me in as I'm overwhelmed by too many choices of which I lack sufficient knowledge of.

If I wanted to make the smallest file possible, what settings would you suggest I render with to simply show my progress? I'm not concerned with quality, just logistics.

Thanks all.

You can probably find a suitable profile in WMV. You may have to try a few different ones to find one that is good for email without reducing quality too much. You might also look at the 'Device' profiles like Apple iPod or Sony PSP. One of the medium quality profiles can reduce the size in half and still look pretty good for a preview.

Smallest possible? Click on the Device tab. Click the Sony button. Try PSP-MPEG4 at Standard Quality. That's about the size you are looking for and a small file size. __________________________________

Hi studioWI -

It is all a bit confusing with so many different options. Here are some examples of a video produced in a number of different formats/profiles to compare file sizes.

The original video was a 720x480 MPEG-2 of 5 minutes duration.

The WMV profiles are usually going to generate much smaller file sizes than other formats.

To me, some of the resultant file sizes don't appear to be logical, but here they are...

Cheers - Tony

Wow!

Very nice Tony. You explain a lot in very few words.

Thank you.
