PD 9 Won't Restart

After a CPU reboot, PD 9 starts OK the first time. After closing it, it will not restart. I found that PDR9.exe is still running.
I saw some previous posts which suggested that Matrox codecs were to blame, but to my knowledge I don't have any.
Maybe I checked in the wrong place. I am running version 2930 with Win7 64 bit. I have already re-installed PD 9 once, but nothing changed. Help, it's a pain to keep having to go to Task manager and manually shut down the process

It depends on how you shut down Powerdirector.

If you get a bad start, then PDR9.exe is still in the processes of the Task Manager. If you exit Powerdirector the correct way, PDR9.exe is shut down. App crash will sometimes leave PDR9.exe running.

If PDR9.exe is sill running in Processes, PowerDirector will not restart.

Not really a bug, it is normal behavior. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Well, mine consistantly fails in a peculiar way. If I open a project in "Edit" mode and close it from there it works fine. But if I ever go into "Create Disc" then it always fails to shut down PDR9.exe. Wierd! Any thoughts?

Switch back to Edit before closing Powerdirector.

That behavior is not normal. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Actually that does not work either. If I have ever been in Create Disc mode, it still will not shut down properly even if I switch back to Edit. It only shuts down properly if I have never gone to Create Disc mode. Anyone else seeing this happen?

Hi JSINCO
You need to "start again". Please follow the uninstall procedure laid out here:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/15688.page

I'd like you to provide a diagnostic of your system please. The method is described here:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page
Part B

We may require screenshots or a sample file later - at this stage no.

Now I have a real mess. I downloaded and ran the programs Dafydd suggested. Now PD won't ever start, I get the std Win 7 message "Power Director has stopped working...". It had not even asked me to re-enter the Key. I checked in Task Manager and nothing from Cyberlink is running. What now.

Have you followed exactly the procedure and reinstalled? Yes, you will need to re-install the activation key.

Repeat the procedure again please.

Yes, I have done that and reinstalled twice, same result, will not start. I am going to do an actual re-install and start over.
Did you see anything in my diagnostics?

JSINCO;
Looking at your diagnostics:

I recommend that you install updated drivers for your video card. What may have worked before will not work now with new PD9. Your drivers are over 2 years old. This often fixes the "startup" issue. Go to the Nvidia site and enter your GPU ( GeForce G 105M ) to find the new drivers. Install and reboot...even if not prompted...then try again:

Need your advice. Checked with the NVidia website and they do have a new driver dated today! They caution however to check with the CPU mfg (HP) as they may not support it. The HP websites latest driver is dated 9-25-09. Which should I use?

I should have noted that the latest driver HP recommends is the one currently installed.
[Post New]
I understand that the manufacturers site recommends an older driver. I suggest that you install the new driver from NVIDIA's site. If this new driver installation needs to be removed, you can use Windows7 to "rollback" the driver. Go to the link above or NVIDIA.COM and enter your card information to see the new driver.

EDIT NOTE: If you are using Hybrid power technology on this older laptop, the drivers may not install/work.. If you try to install, the driver should TELL you it is unsupported.

I do wonder about the multiple entries in your DXDIAG for the "dubbing" software from RapidSolution Software. I am not familiar with possible issues related to this software...just a comment:
Description: Tunebite High-Speed Dubbing (25) (Tunebite High-Speed Dubbing)
Driver Name: tbhsd.sys
Driver Version: 6.00.1500.0000 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
Driver Provider: RapidSolution Software

OK, will download and install the NVidia driver, but I am not sure how that caused my current problem as PD used to initially run OK, but with restart probs.

OK, I installed the new NVidia driver and now I am back to where I was in the first place. PD will initially start. It will also restart if I stay in Edit mode. However if I go into Create Disc mode it will not restart unless I manually kill the process in Task Mgr. I have run new diagnostics and attached. Thank for you help, I really appreciate it.

Please click on the word POWERDIRECTOR in the program to make sure you are running 2930 build.

Then, we need a screencapture of the PD project. Let me know if you need help doing this.
EDIT: Give us a screencap of the "create disc" screen, also.

Thanks

Yes, I am running 9.0.0.2930. I can send you a screen shot, but it does it when I haven't even brought in any project, It just
opens with the sample clips. If I immediately Exit all is well. If I go to the Create Disc mode and then exit, it does not shut down PDR9.exe. Do you want a screen shot of the sample clips?

Is your notebook in a docking station with an USB external Blueray burner? or some kind of multi-media setup?

can you try a stand alone configuration with just your basic notebook and all that fancy stuff disabled?

If you can burn to file in a basic condition, then you can one-by-one enable the other programs and find out if one of them is conflicting with PD.

No thanks...I have seen the sample clips many times. I was trying to determine how to duplicate your events. I thought you were trying to USE the program, not crash it.

I open PD9 and go to create disc and exit and the processes close.

I might suggest that you consider temporarily removing the "dubbing" application (if possible) to see if it is causing a conflict:

I am afraid you will have to wait for another editor..I have made all the suggestions I can.
