Different picture quality via Media Center (Mediabrowser)

Hi all,

Probably a very simple solution but I can't find it.

When I am watching Blu Ray movies via the external player the picture quality is perfect and the black bars are really black. But when I am playing via Media Center the picture is brighter and the black bars are more grey then black.

Why isn't the quality the same and how do I change this? I have tried the settings in Media Center but there are not a lot of options.

Hope that someone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi,

please try this - without playback BD

1. disable TT Enhancements
2. close the settings
3. enable DXVA

if this does not help - please help to post more information:

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

I already have TT off and there is no DXVA option only NVIDIA pure video.

Again, all this settings are not available in your media center plugin.

It almost looks if it's using a different codec then the external player.

Cheers,

Some more info.

Hardware: Nvidia card GT520

Software:

Windows 7 Enterprise
Media Browser
Metabrowser

Codecs: CoreAVC, FFDSHOW and not sure what PowerDVD11 is using.

Again, perfect PQ with the external player but not so good with the MCE plugin. Blacks are grey ;( Also not a lot of settings options within MCE.

Please let me know if you need more info to help me.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi,
you may need to check your VGA settings (in NV control panel and need to activate the full color set)
Please also make sure you have run the advanced MCE setup wizard and used the correct settings.

Please post all information we ask in the welcome thread:

Hi Michael,

I have profesionally calibrated my Samsung Plasma TV and also the NVIDIA settings. I know that I have activate the full color set in NV control panel and also CoreAVC settings, so perhaps there is also a PowerDVD codec setting where I can put it on full?

What do you mean with "you have run the advanced MCE setup wizard" , is that the one with the video's with the guy with the black suit (black cross)? Because that is also already using the correct settings.

To summarize, all other players in Media center are displaying correct. That means the internal player (using CoreAVC) and I also bought Arcsoft TMT5 but the plugin has problems with showing 3D playback in full screen and PowerDVD11 is working smoothly with 3D playback.

For normal 2D playback the PQ is not good since black shows up grey, perhaps it is the full color set but then I have to change this somewhere withing the MCE PowerDVD11 settings?

If you are interested you can see also my calibrated settings over here:

Hope you can help me out Michael, this is the only thing that I need to solve and I know PowerDVD11 can playback it correctly since the external player does, so its only the MCE plugin that fails ;(

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Michael,

I will do that soon.

For now, can you please tell me where I can adjust the brightness level within PowerDVD11 and tell me where I can adjust settings for the PowerDVD11 codec?

At the moment I have to set my TV brightness to 40 when using the PowerDVD plugin but hate to change this all the time ;(

Thanks for your help.

Hi Michael,

FYI, in this thread from 2010 they have the same problem. Perhaps you can check if this is a common problem and perhaps already solved?
