Hi,
I shot some video using a Sony Electret Condenser mic, but there is a loud buzzing sound at one point. I'm not sure if the cord was loose on the mic somewhere (I used an extension cord) because the other sound/video I shot came out fine.

Can I edit out the buzzing noise in Wave Editor? If so, how. I've never had to do this before.

Thanks, as always.

I doubt if you will get much of the noise out... but...

I would use Format Factory to separate the audio from the video, as in just saving the audio, then use Audacity to try to filter out the noise. Both are free. i have been using Format Factory since it hit the street. But I use Sound Edit Pro for all my audio stuff (no longer available)....

Hi,

I was using a Rode Shotgun and got exactly the same thing when shooting a School Play. I also used a mic extension lead to set the mic up on a tripod separately away from the camera.

We tied the buzzing noise (after the event of course) down to a faulty (or maybe just noisy) fader on the lighting panel.
It only happened in the odd scene when presumably a bank of lights were not on full.

I did however manage to remove the worst of buzzing noise by going into the FIX/ENHANCE mode in EDIT clicking on AUDIO DENOISE and trying the BACKGROUND position at something under 50%.

The AUDIO DENOISE does affect the rest of the sound but the buzz is intolerable, it's worth trying the BACKGROUND level as low as possible to start with, and work up.

I did film the play at full dress rehearsal as well without the extension lead and that was fine.

When I tested the set-up with the mic extension lead the lighting panel was probably not switched on.

So I'll know what to do next time.

Happy editing !

GR

Not that this helps now, but that's one of the differences between mini-jack mics (which I own 2) and XLR pro-mics.
The XLR have better connectors and shielding.
This just reinforces my belief we need a forum or room to help with the accessories needed to up-your-game in video editing.
Subjects would be lighting, greenscreen, mics, UV filters, tripods, etc.
Maybe I'll just start my own website with information and shopping, I'm gettin' real tired of pouring concrete for a living!
