Item 212 - PD9 interface becomes grey and is recovered by moving one's cursor - confirmation requ'd
[Post New]
Well, I was just trying to be kind...so MUCH bad can be said about this product, I hesitate to start, for fear that I will not be able to STOP!!!

It makes my lowly VCR tapes and Family videos (yes, HD) and loads to YouTube, and has "reasonably" straightforward (with PDSPEED and a few cutom profiles added) editing functions, so I try to keep the new kids interested, and informed.

I have, over the years amassed MANY programs and MANY versions of each (I get long in the tooth they tell me), and NONE of them have ever been FIXED..just updated to a new set of "features and enhancements" (can be read as buggy actions).

Talk about pain...I am still chasing the location of network setups, through all the versions of WINDOWS...do they REALLY need to move that stuff in every version!!!!??

So yes...it (the graying out) probably happens all the time, regardless of what is or has been run, but I just adapt and have developed a method of backing up my work that prevents me from "melting down", too much.

What does char my wick, is the large group of individuals, that try and run heavy resource hitting products on OLD technology...then complain that the program is CRAP (present company excepted)!. Look, just because your old machine ran the old program fine..and you can't seem to understand how video card resources are related to video production and DVD Burning, doesn't mean that the program is BAD! Get a new machine to leverage new technology (and yes...new drivers WILL be required!!) and quit complaining when the program causes your Model"T" to hiccup!! I am sad that I had to retire my IOMEGA Buz, but life moves on!!

I did say this was not pointed at the Seniors here, didn't I?? So...no flames!!! We have scars, but they are like the tattoos that define and bind us!!! Yes, my program has "issues" all the time. But I have tried the others and I like where I am, thanks!!

If they just paid the one guy at CYBERLINK that still works on the code a little more...maybe he would work harder!!!

Fred - I guess if we weren't joking about the silly thing, we'd all be losing our cool.

Has done it with me at least twice, but I do not remember which patch I was on, pretty sure it was 2702. Seems like I mentioned it to Dafydd at the time.... but I did not make any issue of it, as it is PD9 after all...

It has not done it since the last patch (2930) and I have done two huge projects and several smaller ones with 2930 too. What I did was minimize PD9 let it stew a few seconds then maximized it back up, but I think I did something with other running programs during that time, it would have been Photoshop or Paint.net as I normally have BOTH running along with PD9 when I am on a project. Also remember all I make are slide shows with tons of pictures and maybe a few 10 to 20 second video clips... if any video...

Hi All

Someone knowledgeable asked if this 'greying out' had happened in PD8 - not with me it hasn't - however with PD9 it did - I mean did because I've reverted back to the safety of PD8.

Just one more question from this wooden cube.

With the topic heading of:

Item 212 - PD9 interface... Does this mean there are 212 known 'issues/defects/bugs/missing bits etc' with PD9?????

PD10 anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

That means (I think) that this particular issue is #212 of the revealed/reported list (could be a much larger list).

PD10?! Oh yeah..like we need a whole new numerical list of issues for Beta. It will be really tough for you going from PD8 to PD10!!! Better make the jump and GET IN the PD9 pool!!!

I wrestled with PD9 for almost six months - had to go back to PD8 to save my sanity

I have had it go gray, but I have also had it show my desktop behind PD. Sometimes I can minimize and restore PD, sometimes moving the mouse, sometimes I just have to close PD and start over. I have found nothing in common to point to a cause. __________________________________

I get the gray screen on start up at times. nothing consistant to tie a cause too. Figured it was my PC Amature does it till he gets it right. A Pro does it till he can't get it wrong.

Thank you everyone who has given feedback on the grey interface issue.

Item 212 is where this topic is in my spreadsheet and that covers more than one software product.

YES Jaime - I've had that too, occasionally. It happens when I'm flicking from one mode to the other - e.g. from Edit to Produce or from the Media Library to SmartSound module.

That's one of the things that made me think it was my PC (GPU) misbehaving.

Cheers - Tony

GPU misbehaving - yeah, that's what I wrote to CL as one of my thoughts. I have to admit I'm considering a GPU upgrade as my card is "getting on" a bit. NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

What's yours Tony, I thought you have a 260?

Update item 212:
The issue can be reproduced around 1 out of 10 times. R&D now need time to carry out further investigation.

Thank you everyone who helped confirm this issue... I wasn't alone after-all

Yes Dafydd -

Nvidia GTX 260... also considering an upgrade here, but every time I think I've decided Nvidia releases new ones.

I could nearly afford this one http://www.geforce.com/#/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-560ti/overview

This happens to me as well. Random. Just like everyone else. Can't say the system was over stressed. It has only happened since I updated to build 2930.
Definitely never never happened in PD8

I have also had it randomly on start-up. Didn't worry about it as moving the cursor over the icons brings them up. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Count me in. I wasn't working on a large or complicated project.

Normally I associate something like this with a memory leak, but since it is transient I suspect there's a missing "repaint" in the code.
