How to tell if CUDA is improving performance?
[Post New]
Hello,

Is there a way to compare the performance of NVIDIA CUDA being enabled versus disabled?

How would I run this test and where would I find the results?

Thanks!

Free Space: 6.9 GB
Total Space: 57.2 GB

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Driver Date/Size: 10/3/2009

PowerDirector Ultra64 9.0.0.2702

Before testing, I suggest you update your Nvidia drivers, install the latest PD9 build (2930) and free some space on your C: drive. Transitions seem to care greatly about these items.

Thanks, Fred! I will definitely give those a go!

Can you provide some clarity, does CUDA affect ALL output formats, or just some? My main intention for PD9 is to output wedding videos shot from a JVC camcorder, so DVD (MPEG-2) is my preferred final format!

I will optimize my system first, install the latest drivers, do some trial-and-error, and post the results when I'm finished!

Thanks again!

Depending on your specific card, drivers, CPU, items being processed (like - transitions, transcoding, etc.), the GPU will be used to varying degrees.
There are many gadgets and add-ins for Windows that will disply the GPU utilization and statistics. Some are available directly from Nvidia.

I suggest that those CUDA questions can be better answered on an Nvidia support forum/User Community...I am sure there are plenty of "CUDA NERDS" hanging around on those boards!!

CUDA currently does not support output to MPEG2, it only supports H.264, AVCHD.
