You can create you own profile and set a lower bit rate. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

I have just tweaked an mp4 template to create a 3000kbps video bit rate (+audio). It is a do-able and reasonably simple procedure.

The Nature.mpg converted to an mp4. MediaInfo on the file is included below.

I've written the procedure up once already. I'll copy it here etc in a minute

3000kbps for an mp4
PART 1
1. Place your video into the track
2. select Produce
3. select Mpeg-4
4. select High Quality
5. select the "+"
6. In the dialogue popup enter a Profile name for the template
7. Enter a description - let's come back to this in a minute.
8. Go to the Video tab
9 Resolution - 720p
10. Ensure the frame rate - leave as default - match the original video you have.
11. select progressive
12. Leave at "Main File"
13 Entropy coding - I select CABAC
14. Average bitrate... select the lowest - 6000.
15. Advanced - I set mine to HQ on the slider .
16. I have Use deblocking checked.
17. Audio tab
18. Audio compression rate - you may want to play around with this to see what's best for you. PS3 was 128, so that should do.
19. Back to the Profile name tab and alter the description to note the selections you've made - 720p 3000kbps (yes i know it isn't yet).
20. Click OK
21. You will then be ready to render the footage to your own mp4 template.
22. Check back on the quality and tweak the custom template by selecting the "pencil" icon.

PART 2

You MUST carry out the above Profile creation before this next bit.

CLOSE PD9 before carrying out the following

1. Go to: C:\Users\YOUR-PC-NAME-HERE\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\9.0

2. Select Profile.ini and create a copy (this is your fall back) then open the original in Notepad - make sure when you select "Open with" you uncheck the "Always".

3. Select Format>Wordwrap - this is to allow you to view the information on screen.

4. You are looking for 720p 3000 in the text - the description you entered earlier.

5. See highlighted section. Changed from 6 to 3

6. Now go back to Format and uncheck Word Wrap.

7. Select save and close the file.

8. Now OPEN PD9 and test with a file and see if you can select the altered custom profile and produce with it.

First, thank you for your reply and pointing me to the profile tweaking information. I have followed the procedure and made a new profile for an H.264 AVC setup. After saving it I went and found the profile.ini file: C:\Users\Wayne\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\10.0\Profile.ini

It has all the information I entered but when I reopen PD10 and go back to the Produce 2D page and select H.264 AVc I only get the previous (factory) profiles and my new one doesn't come up. Is there something I have to do to merge this profile with the factory settings so it comes up since I see no way of opening a profile from the HDD?

I notice the instructions were for PD9 and everything was where it should be but is there something I'm missing. The only thing different seems to be the double quote at the top of the ini file you pasted. I tried that - it made no difference. I added another profile and this is reflected in the profile.ini file also but again, neither are available for sselction after going back into PD10....

I'd appreciate any further help you may have.

As for me, i will never reencode at a lower bitrate, cause Lower bitrate = lower quality. Any one have an altinative?

I use to be very unhappy about Cyberlink PowerDirector and have posted testy post on these forms but after reading some articles, understanding the video decoding/encoding process and working with PowerDirector 11, I gotta say I'm pretty happy with it now.

You can compress at lower bits per second using method above. It's a bit of an inconvenience but it's workable.
Encoding process is pretty fast and the results are pretty good.
Biggest gripe I had was I couldn't get the Hardware video encoder to work with my AMD 6990M graphics processor.
But hardware encoding + lower bitrate does not always matter.

Lower bitrate does not necessarily mean lower quality.

PowerDirector does still have some problems.
Like memory release and lack of variable Index frames but overall gotta say I'm pretty happy.

I seem to posted so many testy negative posts about PowerDirectory, I figure I gotta balance it out now.

I suspect you can't find your new profile because when you click the DROPDOWN MENU to find it, you choose DEFAULT, rather than CUSTOM, or ALL, in the Produce section. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Dafydd, sorry to drag up an old post, but is it possible to create a 540p MP4 template?

It seems PD13 doesn't come with any native 16:9 profiles for encoding MP4 with either H.264 or H.265 lower than 720p.

I'm trying to produce the highest possible quality 16:9 video under 100 MBs. I understand the newer codecs produce better video quality with smaller file sizes, hence I'd like to use H.264 if possible; unfortunately there are profiles for creating 16:9 (widescreen) MP4 video at lower resolutions such as 960x540 or 640x360
