Further to my post (re: BD crashing)

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17797.page

The problem is HTPC -> TV worked. HTPC -> Amp -> TV doesn't work.

I suspected that it could be a resolution switching issue when going through the Amp so I uninstalled the ATI drivers, ran PowerDVD to play a BD and it worked (full test at end of post).

The issue is the ATI HDMI Driver, which driver should I be using ? What should the settings be ?

Full test

Remove ATI drivers (BD plays but only stereo)
Install Realtek 2.6 (PDVD crash)
Remove Realtek 2.6 (BD plays but only stereo, therefore indicates could be ATI HDMI device driver issue)
Install latest ATI drivers (PDVD crash)
Remove ATI HDMI drivers (BD plays but only stereo)
Install Realtek older versions back to 2.49 (PDVD crash)
Remove Realtek and ATI drivers (BD plays but only stereo)
Installer all older versions of ATI drivers back to 11.2 (PDVD crash with ATI or Realtek HDMI drivers installed)
Remove all Realtek and ATI drivers
Install latest ATI drivers, change output settings, tried all settings from 16bit, 44Khz to 24bit, 192Khz (PDVD Crash)

Conclusion PDVD will only play BD when the HDMI device driver is uninstalled and using default Microsoft driver.

Hi tech81,

I would suggest:

1. remove Relatek drivers
2. remove ATI driver
3. reboot
4. install latest ATI driver
5. check with TV connected only
6. if OK try with amplifier
7. please try a physical disc and no BD Image

if you still encounter GPs ("crash") please provide the Eventlog

1. remove Relatek drivers
2. remove ATI driver
3. reboot
4. install latest ATI driver

DONE

5. check with TV connected only

OK but STEREO only available

6. if OK try with amplifier

PDVD Crashed 41% on progress bar, subsequent tests go to 99% and hang

7. please try a physical disc and no BD Image

Always, never use images, tried all discs owned

There is nothing in the error log, hence my previous post asking for requests to allow me to obtain more verbose issue (or trace).

Thanks for your help so far, any other ideas ?

Got PDVD to work with the AV Amp once ... I changed the Audio Settings from

Current System Setting (use HDMI) to Use HDMI, PCM Decoded By PowerDVD

Changed from PCM Decoded to Non decoded DD/DTS external device and rebooted. FAILED ! PDVCD crashes again.

Uninstalled PDVD 10 Ultra Mk2.

Installed PDVD 9 Ultra, updated to latest version. Cold boot. Works, plays BD / DVD. Cold Boot. Try again, works.

Upgraded to PDVD 10 Ultra mk 2, updated to 2701. Cold Boot. BD fails to play, must be a PDVD 10 issue.

Hi,

latest PowerDVD 10 Version is V2916

please post the 32Bit Version of the DXDIAG (the 64 can not show all info I need)

I can not reproduce your issue here using ONKYO Amplifier.

Please make sure to have installed all Audio devices with the correct drivers (also the "analog" audio)

The drivers provided by MSFT (the one you are using) can not support HD Audio bitstreaming

Thanks Michael, I am using the MSFT drivers as the ATI / Realtek ones cause PDVD 10 to crash, PDVD 9 works fine with the ATI drivers and I'm currently using PDVD 9 (although none of the PDVD 9 version I have play 3D !).

Still unable to play BD with PDVD 10 Ultra mk2.

Luckily PDVD 9 Ultra still plays BD but also exhibits the same issues as

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17986.page

i.e. you need to press play twice.

Hi there

After co-working with AMD, most crash issue has been fixed after AMD 11.5 driver or later.

Issue fixed in AMD Catalyst 11.5 driver
- PowerDVD no longer randomly crashes when HDMI 8 Channel Audio is enabled.
- PowerDVD no longer crashes intermittently after enabling / disabling Crossfire during BD playback.

For more info about AMD Catalyst 11.5 driver, please visit their release note to know more.

Hi OP. Was this issue ever resolved?

I've tried HDMI audio driver 11.8 and powerdvd 10 still freezes at 99% on blu rays. I was previously using the HDMI audio driver from 10.11 and it worked fine (no freeze).

My reasoning for attempting to upgrade was for xmen. I will try patch 3306 tonight and see if I experience the same issue.

Thanks,

Setup:

HTPC > Denon AVR-791 > Samsung LNT4671F

System:

Win7 32
Ati 5670 (11.8 drivers)
core2duo
2gb ram
powerdvd 10 ultra mk2 [purchased online] (2916 patched)
IE8 (no IE9 installed)

Hi Mik3,

No this did not solve the problem, however I will try the 3306 patch, if that doesn't work I'll take a leaf out of your book from the X-Men post

Patch appeared to work, i.e. playd blu ray, not tested DVD or 3D BD ! For me no other actions necessary.

Tech81,

That's good to hear it's working for you. The 3306 patch combined with 11.5 drivers seems to be the sweet spot right now for me. After a week of jumping through hoops! Now I can leave it alone again and concentrate on watching movies instead.
