Is this site selling PowerDirector Ultra 64 legitimate?
http://store.fileforum.com/p18096-cyberlink_powerdirector_9_ultra64

Also, is the "Exclusive Free Bundle" downloads that would be available to registered owners of PD9 regardless?

Thanks!!

Hi Tricyhe,

The site shows the file as 690mb, which is the size of the Program Pack. It does not appear to include the Contents pack,(over 700mb) needed for full operational use. Up to you, but I would leave it alone.

CyberLink sometimes offers some free software with PowerDirector.

Hi Triryche -

These are the authorised resellers, listed on CyberLink's site... http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/regional-stores/enu/index.jsp

The FileForum Store doesn't appear to be listed.

Cheers - Tony

Looks like the orders are fulfilled out of Cologne Germany. What caught my attention was the free Holiday Vol 3 pack. I guess the safest thing is to stick with the authorized resellers. Was hoping somebody had personal experience with the site.
I'm still using the trial version and just looking for a good deal to make my final decision.

Just one other point, they are selling PowerDirector for A$90 CyberLink direct sell it for US$90, not much difference in price and you are getting the full version.

My site shows in Australian Dollars and considering the current exchange rates, the Australian price should be considerably cheaper. That applies to CyberLink too, they are grossly overcharging when converting US to Aus. dollars

The boxed version does not have two files like the download version does. It installs all from the disc in one shot, even though it does not always seem to do it.

I would NOT get the boxed version..... __________________________________________

FYI.. This page http://store.fileforum.com/p18096-cyberlink_powerdirector_9_ultra64 indicates that the full "Content Pack" is indeed included with the purchase. But, they say it's build 2701. Perhaps just a typo?

Cyberlink is selling PD9 Ultra for $89.95 right now and FileForum.com for $79.95. File Forum also packages "Media Expresso" with the PD9 package. Not sure how useful this software is to video editors, but they say it's a $39.95 value.

Oh my...Here's a PD9-Ultra for $59.00. Says it's "Used". Can something composed of nothing but bits and bytes be "Used"?

LOL!!!
Depends on if they are (were) using quantum computing??
FWIW, I thought the "free" holiday pack was useful for an entry level user (me).

But I will have to put this on hold for now, my Cannon Optura 60 decided to not play back anymore. So now I'm off to find (or fix) something to playback my mini-DV's. I bought it new ~ 7 years ago and loved every minute of it up until today. It just stopped reading tapes???

Hi,
Used = previously activated by another computer.
PD9 has a limited number of allowable activations.

Legit or not? The list on CL's site is unlikely to be comprehensive as there are often sub-sellers (third party) of a product.

There is a German based company who can and has the right to sell boxed products, they may be the source of the unit.

The point of sale can often be the only way to ascertain who will deliver a product. I believe all online download delivered items are handled by Digital River (secure online service company).

I suggest you put in an enquiry to CyberLink - they should handle your question.

Erring on the side of caution and purchasing direct (from CyberLink) is often the better option.

Just a follow up, this appears to be legit.
I found the same deal here which is basically the same company and downloadcrew is listed as an authorized seller for Cyberlink.

It may be a legit site, but look at the download size, 690mb, that's only the program pack, no mention of the contents pack, another 700mb + file.

As I have said before and Dafydd has said, err on the side of caution and leave it alone.

I hope this threads not dead so here goes. I read the comment from Bubba that he would not buy the box version. Also others said the box version does not have all the files. I would much rather have the disc I can hold in my hand and reload fresh should I need to reinstall windows (always a good idea every year or so) or I have a major ooops in my system (I hate the word "crash"). I currently have an email in to Digital River to see if I can get the bundled PowerDirector/PhotoDirector deal but have hard discs instead of a download. Another reason is that I have satellite internet (AT&T will not provide any broadband in my area) and the service is not as quick as most and I have limits on my upload and download amount.

Am I screwing up?
Rich

Or should this be on a new thread?

I am a bit surprised by this thread. Why should we be trying to vet resellers?

As of just now: I extracted this spec from the resellers page.

The product sold consists of both the main download and the content pack.

Product: CyberLink PowerDirector 9 Ultra64
Version: 9.0.0.2930
Last Updated: 04 August 2011
Manufacturer: CyberLink
Platform
Windows 7 (32 bit)
Windows 7 (64 bit)
Windows Vista (32 bit)
Windows Vista (64 bit)
Windows XP
Languages
English, French, German, Italian, Spanish (European), Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Japanese, Korean
System Requirements:
<none given>
Special Information:
Important: after purchasing CyberLink PowerDirector 9 Ultra64, you will receive a full build, plus Content Pack, which is 750MB.

If I had doubts about an offer being too good to be true, I would buy it on Credit Card, knowing that (in UK and Europe0 the CC issuer has ultimate responsibility for the transaction. If it is fraudulous, I would have appropriate means to recoup my expenses. Same goes for PayPal.

If I were the business operating on tight margins (so as to make good offers) and the principal forum for the product was slagging my business off, directly or by implication, I would be very cross to say the least.

If ever a thread should be pulled, this is it.

I don't know if any of these responses are centered on my question but let me clarify. I am attempting to purchase PD9 directly from the CL site. I made my inquiry to CL and they directed me to Digital River, the entity which apparently handles CL's sales. I am waiting for a response from them. In the meantime I was perusing this thread and saw comments on download vs. box set. That prompted me to ask if one method was preferred (better) over the other. I prefer tangible discs but if they do not contain all the files I need I will go, reluctantly, with the download versions.

Hopefully this clarification will un-ruffle some feathers.

I am TOTALLY new to this digital HD movie thing. The last movies I took were on a Super 8 Kodak. But the deal I got on my Canon Vixia HF M301 camera was very good and I am going to need a lot of assistance. This site seems to fill that bill. I just downloaded the trial version of PD9 and was very impressed with it's speed and ease of use.

All I'm looking for is a little guidance from people who know the ins and outs of this magic.

Thanks,
Rich

Richard,

1) Downloads vs Discs. Well for me, DL every time - the download goes onto my data drive, gets backed up later and there it is if I need it again. With Discs, they can get scratched or UV aged and you are stuffed. It is just a question of personal taste. Do as you prefer.

2) It was not your contribution which I am cross about, it is the question and the negative responses at the beginning of the thread.

3) If your download speed is that bad, you should definitely use a download manager, there are, I think, a number out there, but I happen to use and recommend Free Download Manager. Get it going just before you go to bed, and it will be waiting for you when you get up.

Good luck
