Question Regarding Importing Pictures

When importing .jpeg files into the video/PiP track, the program freezes and then gives "PowerDirector has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" However, the pics that come with the program work just fine. Because of previous problems, I downloaded the current patch and all works fine except this. My system meets all the requirements to run the program. Advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
J

Dave, thank you for the link. I read over it and followed some links; it says I should uninstall and reinstall PD8.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for all the information. My son has followed all the information that you have recommended. However the picture problem still exists. Though he found a creative solution around what he wanted to do. For the time being he is fine and the program is working to his liking. We will continue to explore reasons why this happening and what to do to solve the problem. Again thanks for the info and the time letting us know where to go for answers.

Thanks,

J

J,
If you have an actual picture you can attach to your post, I can see if I can import into my PD8 setup and I'm sure others would also if they had the chance.

Dave,

Here is a pic that is in jpeg format that was imported in from a camera (we have tried other pics as well same format.) At first my son used a bmp file that he made using paint, which did not work either. Hope this helps.

The picture opens in my PowerDirector 8 and in Irfanview.

Cute dog.

Jpeg and Bmp should work in Powerdirector. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Thanks Carl, it is my girlfriend's dog.

Okay Simeon I downloaded the pic from this post, imported and then drug it over to pic on pic. PD 8 locks up and then says it needs to shut down. First I appreciate all the help you guys are trying to give. I know nothing about this program as my son uses it. I just thought I would communicate through him rather than have a 13 year old discuss this with you.

Just some background info. The computer we are running this on is using Windows XP (service pack 2) like PD 8 requires. At first when we ran PD 8 it would do the same thing with the movies. But we downloaded the patch and that seemed to solve that issue. Now it's the pictures he is trying to use. I can give the code error information if anyone thinks that might be usefull.

Again thanks for all the help

Hi 2nsane -

There's nothing about that image (& probably the others you're trying to import) that should cause PD to throw up an error message. You say your PC meets the minimum requirements, but we haven't seen the specs. In any case, it's hardly a big load to import a few lower res images!

So - the images are OK, your PC is OK, but PD's not!

If it was me I'd be completely uninstalling PD (using Revo or CCleaner to remove registry entries) and installing a fresh copy.

Cheers - Tony

J,

Finally got around to importing your photo, yes I can import it like Carl312 and Simeon11, so it is probably not the images. Tony's advice is good too. Without seeing the specs on your system a removal and re-install couldn't hurt.

Tony and Carl question, codecs wouldn't have anything to did with this? just saying...

I doubt it, Powerdirector has built in codecs for common file formats in the program.
I suppose, you could have something that interfered with the built in codecs.

The most likely thing is Powerdirector program and some of its files may be corrupted.
I have also seen where the OS is messing with programs and a re-install of the OS will fix the problems.

Again guys, thanks for all the input. And for those that wanted here is the info regarding the system I am running:

System:

Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

eMachines
T3065
AMD Athalon XP 3000+
2.17 GHz, 448 MB of Ram
Factory graphics card

It's been a busy weekend and son is with his mother this week so there hasn't been a rush to get this fixed. But I will do as you guys suggest and unistall and make sure the registry is clean of the program. Then will reinstall and see what happens then.

Thanks,
J

2nsane,
I believe I see your problem if all you have is 448 MB of memory(OS I presume). I think the very basic is like 512Mb OS and 2 Gigs DDR2 or more for HD editing.

I hope this helps!
Cheers!

2nsane,

There is a Service Pack 3 from Microsoft update for Windows XP.

Microsoft is not supporting updates for XP Service Pack 2, but does support Service Pack 3. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.
