In producing my videos, there are some advanced options available. By default, they aren't checked.. but should I check them?

What is Smoothing?
What is Noise Removal?

And then what is speed/quality indicator?

I'm not sure where those options are, but sounds similar to the functions to clean up a less than perfect video. Don't use them unless you have a good reason to as they likely slow down production, maybe a lot. __________________________________

Hi Jamie,

If you click on the 'Create a new profile' (+) button in the produce window and then click on video you will see under Advanced ,smoothing and noise removal. I have never used this.

Thanks, I didn't try the new profile button. I'll have a look, but obviously I have never used it or I would have known where to find it. __________________________________

But by default, the speed/quality indicator is set to 6. What if it's set to 7? Would it be better quality video then?

Well I guess I'll just try it then. I'll come back here and write it down if anybody is interested in this.

It probably takes more time to analyze the video for compression and may, or may not, give better quality. __________________________________

Nope it doesn't give better quality. I actually thought it gave worse quality in my opinion. So everybody, you don't need to use those buttons.

Dale -

Those options are available when you're producing an MPEG-2 file to a custom profile (only).

If your original clips are of good quality, you shouldn't need to apply any smoothing or noise removal. As Jaime said, it'll slow down production time anyway. To be honest, I don't have a clue what that speed/quality slider does - it certainly doesn't affect resolution or bitrate.

Cheers - Tony
