You do a series of video splits. At the exact point you want the original audio gone, you split the video at that point. And then you keep going until you are done with the portions where you want silent. Then you do another split. Then you 'unlink' that split portion (with the original audio) and delete the audio. Then you have a hole where the audio is suppose to be.. then you put in your own audio. Does that make sense?

Oh wait.. you are using PD 8? You can't unlink clips with that version.. in that case, you have to 'extract audio' from that split clip and mute that split section. Then insert your own audio into a separate audio track.

smackjack22,

You can do what you desire. You can add keyframes to the audio portion of the video clip and adjust the volume of any portion.

See the attached screen shot for more details. The screen shot is from PD9, PD8 is the same or very similar. The same procedures work in PD8.

Hope this helps,

Hal

HalCon is correct. His shows the audio being split from the original video file. This can also be done the same way with the audio still in the main video track, just look for the white line running through the center of the file and make your adjustments the same way.

Then you can add your other audio to the secondary audio track at the desired places. You can also make adjustments in the audio studio as necessary.

The easiest way I have found to mute a part of the time line is to just put a split at the beginning and end of the section you want muted, then just right click that section and select "mute clip"

You can then add whatever other audio you want in the audio track below the muted clip. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

whats the fastest way to take just the audio from a video for editing

Smackjack,

There are a few things that didn't get explained all the way. When you go to edit the sound in the main track, click the line and a red keyframe will appear there. From there you will need to also place keyframes at whatever points to be able to lower or raise whichever section you want.

As for the taking of the audio, if I understand your question correctly. The easiest way is to right click the audio section of your main track and select "Split audio" or "remove audio" etc.

Cheers!

The fastest way in PD8 is to right click the Video in the library and extract audio.

That makes a WAV of the whole video. Once you have the WAV you can edit in any audio editor.

Hi smackjack -

That's a PD9 question about profiles in a PD8 forum under a question about muting audio...

BUT

when you go to Produce, you need to select a profile that suits your needs. In PD9, for example, if you select MPEG-4 Standard Quality, you'll get a 640x480 video.

Maybe you should post in the PD9 forum.

Cheers - Tony
