PLEASE STOP AUTO-SELECTING "CLIP" MODE IN THE PREVIEW WINDOW

Hi. I'm currently using the trial version of PowerDirector 9, and I have a few thoughts I'd like to share.

If I click on or inside a video clip on the timeline, go ahead and select the clip for preview. That's cool.

However, if I click a specific point in the timeline, IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE I WANT TO WATCH THE VIDEO STARTING FROM THAT POINT. OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE SELECTED A CLIP.

Furthermore, when the preview is playing and I click another point on the timeline, PLEASE DO NOT STOP PLAYING THE VIDEO, THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED YOU TO DO.

I'm just sayin'.

Look, I think this is a great program overall, but the devil is in the details, and I'm finding it pretty hard to justify spending the money on a video production app that doesn't make me feel very productive.

Any usability tips, feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Keyboard short cut...

To start and stop press space bar.....

Anytime you click in the time line it will stop.

Or look at these..... just remember that the trial version is a watered down version of PD9.............. Not ALL things will work.

Most of us are very productive with this software and some have been for 9 versions.

I know what you are saying, but if you click on the top of the timeline instead of on the timeline itself, it will stay in movie mode. If you click on a clip, it will switch to clip, but if you click on a blank space in the timeline it should switch back to movie mode.

That's doesn't solve your problem, but it does make it a little easier to work with. __________________________________

It does help me understand what the heck is going on though, so thank you for that.

It just gets tiring having to keep switching between clip and movie mode all the time. It would be a HUGE help if it just stayed in whichever mode you had selected, or at least if we had an option to change the default behavior. I just can't see the logic in how clicking the precision time scale on top of the timeline would select an entire clip.

Ah well, at least there's the PG UP and PG DN keys. I guess I'll just try to get more comfortable using those for now, among other keyboard shortcuts.

Meh, sorry for ranting. I really do like this program a lot, which is why its few small hangups frustrate me so much.

Just out of curiosity, is preview/UI performance any better in the full (Deluxe) version than in the trial?

Thanks for listening to my mania.

Bottom line is... once you have done it for a while you do not even notice. I am working on a timeline right now with well over 300 pictures and 300 transitions and over 250 titles..

I go between clip and movie mode 20 or 30 times a minute. Don't even notice I am doing it.

I am in either mode when I preview. To preview hit space bar and to stop hit space bar. You are letting something new to you get to you. __________________________________________

See the "PDSpeed" thread, sticky at the top of the forum - this little utility more or less does away with the Clip/Movie problems.

(I know not everyone sees Clip/Movie as a problem, but some clearly do).
