I Have some old camcoder videos done on my old Sony Handycam Digital8 DCR TRV 255E video camera that i would like to either transfer to my PC or onto PD9. I Read a thread on here where someone had transfered his old videos onto his HD camcorder then downloaded from there,is this possible.I Also have Sony Handycam HDR-TG7VE video camera. Also,is it possible to transfer videos played on a normal VCR video player onto PC???

Thanks in advance.

If you don't have a direct firewire or usb connection from the camera to the computer, you may be able to get a video input card or video grabber card like the old snappys for a component video input into your computer.

I transfered my Panasonic IQ Camcorder videos through a Dazzle thingy (49-89dollars Canadian) then imported into PD8 and finally PD9. The dazzle thing has sockests for sound and video and can connect to a VCR. the quality is acceptable altho' not as good as digital videos and the aspect ratio is old format.

Is your old camera analog?
If it is, do you have a new HD digital camcorder and firewire?
Look at the owner's manual, and see if your new camera (or borrowed) has analog>digital conversion.
If so, you hook up your old camera, via RCA connectors, to your new camera, which in turn is hooked up via firewire to your computer. This piggy-back will work using Windows Movie-Maker, and you might not have to spend a dime, or shilling, or whatever. It may not work in PD unless you actually buy a USB-type converter dongle.

EDIT: I'm thinking "old world". Newer hardrive cameras have USB, not firewire, but the setup is the same. Maybe you could get a VCR device to play your Digital8 tapes inside a VCR-type case. But you'll still need connect to your computer.
