Hello all,

I'm editing and making movies for a while now with PD 9.
What costs me the most of my time is looking for and using good backgroundmusic.

Now the question is: do you have some tips for finding good backgroundmusic?
Especially instrumental/acoustic music?

I've searched on YouTube for a while, but lots of stuff there is crappy.
It would be nice when someone could mention a quality-site or artists/albums with good music etc.

You can't really leagally grab people's music form youtube, the most I would do is a common sound effect or as I have done and Osprey's peeping voice.

Try http://www.jamendo.com/en - for non-pro use the artists allow free use under creative commons licencing. It's worth reading the creative commons details http://creativecommons.org/licenses/. Any other uses need commercial licenses which are outlined for each track/album.

Powerdirector has Smart Sound, which you can use, more songs are available for a fee. Smart Sound is a good source.

Just search Google for "Royalty Free Music".

There a lots of music available. Very little is free.

Most Royalty free Music comes with a fee to produce the CD or DVD and the Royalty free license.

Once you have the license, you can use the music in video productions forever.

HwKok - The thing to consider, apart from music quality, is where your videos will be viewed. If it's just for home, you don't have to consider licensing. If it's for social media sites or disc distribution/sale, that's a different story.

That was Adrian's point above. Different levels of licensing mean different kinds of legal usage.

If you're after a broad range of music "atmospheres", for home use, freeplay music is excellent... http://freeplaymusic.com/index.php It has a great search facility to grab just the right piece. Make sure you read the Licensing information.
