Organizing split clips into labeled folders

I have imported a source video to work with that is over an hour long. I have made many splits in that video to give me a large number of small clips. I would like to make folders to keep them off of my timeline and organize them into labeled folders according to certain criteria for easy access to use back on the timeline. How can I organize small clips cut from one large source file?

Thank you for any help! I have tried everything I can think of desperately.

First, you would have to produce the clips into finished videos. Close you project. Then, you move the produced clips into folders, but, here's the catch. When you reopen the project PD will not find your clips, so you have to start all over again by importing the clips and putting them on the timeline. __________________________________

If you want to give up all of the good features for that one little thing, I guess I can't stop you. I hope you find what you are looking for. __________________________________

Hi Kapheen

Further to what Jaime has said you can save the 'splits' as PDS (PowerDirector Files) projects.

For example:

Import large clip - save as "Master"

First split - save as "Beginning or No. 1"

Second split - save as "Middle or No. 2"

Etc etc.

Hope this helps. Happing editing

see... i have many small clips that can be as small as 1 second in length. i need to be able to sort them according to content.... say clips with close ups of eyes so i dont have to scan through more than an hour of clips on one timeline to find small clips that i need to use together. so to me this is not "one little thing" it makes work impossible.

Hi Kapheen

Is there a video editing program under $100 that can do that?

As far as I know there is not - mind you I have been wrong before

Good luck in your search for one.

Happy video editing Happing editing

Hi Kapheen,

Have you explored the Scene Detection tool in the Media Library? Perhaps this may suit your needs, in lieu of saving splits in the timeline?
Right click on your hour long clip up in the Media Library, and choose Detect Scenes. Note the available Sensitivity adjustment option in the Scene Detection.
(Or see the Help Files index. Scroll down to Library in the index for more info.)

Once your hour long clip is broken into individual scenes, you can then create subfolders for various scene groups.

See attached images below.

the funny thing is that i used to do this a decade ago in premiere 6.5 however they removed the function in later versions. its a simple function and i dont see why software designers are leaving this out, even the ones that are high end or expensive.

corel is able to do it, but i havent found any other program with this capability yet, regardless of price.

interesting cranston.

once i split a video that way, it takes me into that files new folder. once i click return up one level i see the thumbnail now has a folder icon but i cant return into the folder without clicking detect scenes again... nor can i seem to create subfolders as you mentioned.

oh and i have no idea how to open the pdn file there either

a member chose to private message me instead of posting in the thread, but suggested to use boilsoft video splitter and load those clips into my project. this has been the best idea for my purposes, i hope that helps someone else as well.

thanks for the feedback everyone.
